Does Lies of P live up to Dark souls/Bloodborne/Sekiro
Before I buy, I'm just wondering if this game will live up. I love the aesthetic of a bloodborne steampunk alice in wonderland, but I know this isn't made by fromsoft, and I'm wondering if this game is really worth it

I've played a couple thousand hours of Fromsoft titles (only PC available ones). I've played the Surge, Nioh, Remnant, and Lords of the Fallen. None of those were able to get that souls itch and only sent me back to a Fromsoft game.

I approached Lies of P tentatively with very low expectations, but I got blown out of the water. The game is challenging and requires you to master different types of mechanics and strategies. But they got so much right. It's not perfect, but it's a solid 9/10 from me. I did 4 playthroughs back to back and doing a 5th victory lap right now.

My advice is this: learn to perfect guard and weave it into your prior souls knowledge. Just doing perfect guards will be frustrating on a first playthrough, just dodging will get you countered though it's still mostly possible. Learning when to guard and when to dodge turns this into an amazing, choreographed dance. If you pay attention to your armor and health when leveling, virtually nothing will one-shot you in NG (a critique I have of games like Elden Ring). There could be one or two exceptions depending on your build.

I've played over 100 hours and I've not run into a single crash or drop in framerate. They miss a few quality of life elements, such as runbacks from this version's bonfire. They also adjust some elements that take time to get used to. For instance, hyperarmor for heavy weapons comes much, much later. It cannot be relied on unless you're doing fable arts (special attack using something akin to a recharging mana bar).

TLDR - this easily rose up to be the best souls-like not made by Fromsoft by a mile. If they continue down this road, Fromsoft will have a real competitor on their hands and I'm all for it.

It basically combines the best things about Sekiro and Bloodborne very successfully, so yea I'd say it's worth it.

It's a legitimately tough game, though; if you're one of those souls players that uses every single crutch and broken ranged/magic build to beat those games then Lies of P might not be much fun for you.

Yes. Definitely worth it.

I've played more or less every soulslike on the market and this one is the best (non-FromSoft).

The only one that comes close is Nioh 2, but I wouldn't really consider it a soulslike for a variety of reasons. It has a lot of similarities on the surface, but has fundamentally different design, most importantly combat in that game is very proactive and I find reactive combat to be the most important characteristic of souls games.
Not even close.

was good....get it or get gamepass

I'd definitely recommend it.
I'm no purist gatekeeper, and yes - this game has some borderline plagiarism, but it's still good.
Combat is the main focus since exploration is almost non-existent, but there's some cryptic story-telling too (which I started paying attention to way to late).
And it runs great!
Imagine that in 2023!

It is - but in the end it depends what kind of "souls" you like. If parrying and extensively erratic animations are not among the things you like, you might want look for another game (instead of - eventually - complaining and asking for changes).

Also keep in mind it was dumbed down twice so far (demo->release, and 1.1.2.0 ->1.2.0.0) and likely will be nerfed again. You can relatively easy revert the version though.

My guess is you'll have every response from hell no to hell yes. And within those responses people who have played From's games for thousands of hours.

Bloodborne and Sekiro are my favorite titles from er...From. About 1500 hours combined (1200 of that is BB).

I thought Lies was amazing.

You will get people saying it's linear, when I see that word I think concise, In this case it is one of the games greatest strengths.

You go from point A to point B. In between? A distilled gauntlet of things that want you dead. No wide open safe space. No ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. No refuge. No fluff. Just meat.

well, a bit unfair comparison given how old some of the From games are now, but honestly, in terms of technical polish and performance, only the latest FromSoft games can realistically measure up to it (AC6, ER). Sekiro's combat still most polished and balanced out of all, since it has a very narrow focus and does not have to account for different builds and weapon configurations.

It's like a carbon copy in many ways but they also fail to understand what makes From games great in other ways. It's EXTREMELY linear to the point where it's nearly a straight line. You can go down like 2 side paths occasionally but they link back up with the main within 5 minutes. Also, some of the boss design is very questionable at best.
now, that is a bullsh1t take if i have ever seen one.

Yes definitely. It's a massive love letter to From Software, imitating them in every aspect while adding its own flair.
By the way, if you're tired of colossal open worlds, you will find this refreshingly linear. This was a pleasant surprise for me.
