Ah yes, please screw me over some more game (can't complete cryptic vessels)
Already had a good weapon so I used my boss souls to turn them into amulets/accessories. But lo and behold, at the very end of the game you are required to have used the champion's boss ergo for the weapon otherwise you're permanently screwed out of getting a certain quartz and not being able to complete the very last part of the questline during the playthrough.

I know Souls games do similar things, but I think this is far worse since the game is far more linear. In the Souls games doing a few playthroughs feels very different depending on your route and playstyle. Not so much in this game where every playthrough is the same save for a few minor dialogue/reward differences.

A singular Quartz is not going to prevent you from completing the game.

You don't need to 100% everything the first run through.

You should think twice before doing something :)

This isn't about not being able to get 100%. This is about screwing me over out of completing a quest that takes the full game to complete and stopping me at 99% completion of that quest.

And with how linear this game is I don't see the point of replaying it for me.

So your complaint is moot at best. The only reward you get for this quest, besides a singular Quartz, is a costume. That's it.

If you don't see yourself going into NG+ because "too linear", then you don't have anything to worry about really.

It's the only instance of this in the game and happens about 80 percent of the way through lmao souls stans

Completing a quest you devote your time and effort into gives you a sense of accomplishment. You certainly play Souls games for very different reasons than me if you're in it for the loot and not for the mental satisfaction.
To be fair, it's not even a quest proper. You just get to the merchant after deciphering a cryptic vessel, and if you have what he needs - bam, get your reward. I fail to see what kind of mental satisfaction one can get from such a short interaction.

I like my quests meaningful.

You can farm Ergo from EVERY SINGLE ENEMY WHENEVER YOU WANT... but you can't get the boss weapons whenever you want and as many as you want (in one playthrough) so if you are smart enough, you are going to exchange the boss ergo for the weapon or amulet just because using it gives you literally nothing special... even if you don't use the weapon or amulet, it's still much more special than some stupid 10k or 15k Ergo which you can farm within 20 minutes.

If the author of this post wanted 100% as much as they do, they would exchange the boss ergo for boss weapons as soon as they got their ergo because it also counts towards the game's 100% progression (owning every special weapon and/or amulet).

There is also an achievement you need for 100% completion which requires you to own every single special weapon so if the author of this post really wanted 100%, they would just start NG+ like I did and collect all the items they are missing.

In this game especially, you really want to have the boss weapons because they are the strongest so for me it was 100% the weapons first, the amulets aren't even that good imo, those amulets either ruin the experience (Green Monster amulet which allows you to dodge fury attacks) or they just aren't really good, I would rather use some kind of +stats or stamina regen, hp regen, more damage, etc. than the boss amulets, they are also quite heavy so I would never go for amulets in first playthrough. In NG+ you get like 4x more Ergo from enemies so you can actually do like 100 levels in NG+, then you can invest something in capacity and actually carry the amulets comfortably without being overweight so for the first playthrough I would always go for the weapons, especially if they also give you an achievement.

:)

lol, true though.

But what you know, someone might enjoy reading random lines of text for 10 seconds which do not even really make sense imo. I don't really understand this particular quest, you basically meet up with a merchant, show him the weapon and he gives you 1 Quartz and Red Fox outfit...

I am not really sure for who the outfit was supposed to be in the first place, if Victor or Simon lol.

Kinda a trash argument. I didn't use the boss ergo for ergo. I used it for the amulet and I mentioned that's what I did with all of the boss ergo because I already had a good weapon. And I didn't even do it until just before killing the 1 guy that you could trade the souls with since the questline ends with it and you're rewarded for it.

Do you even use those amulets though ? you have full inventory of amulets I suppose and they serve the same purpose as the boss weapons would, they just sit in the inventory patiently waiting to be equipped.

If you exchanged all the boss ergo for amulets and you don't even use them, you could have just waited with the ergo until you finish the game or you could have exchanged it for weapons because weapons are usually more "experimental", amulets are usually used for a little boost, at least I use them that way, dmg boost, hp boost, stamina boost, stats boost, etc. Weapons are the main thing you want to have as many as possible because every weapons has different fable arts and one might suit your PERSONAL playstyle more than the other, you never know if you have the right weapon for you...

I have been using the starting balanced sword since the beginning until I defeated Romeo and crafted the Puppet Ripper which suits me the most from all the weapons... it looks cool, fable arts do huge damage, it has range and it's also quite fast.

Boss weapons are the best weapons in this particular game, so you would definitely find something which might suit you because there is A LOT of weapons and every single one is unique. They are also much better in terms of damage compared to the same type non-boss weapons.

I thought more than once while playing the game and I have everything I need :)

If you really like the game and if you really want that quest, you would have no problem starting NG+ like I did.

I did all the endings by playing through the whole game so I hit 100% achievements after the Nameless boss in NG++ and I even thought about playing it one more time, but I don't really have any motivation because NG+3 doesn't have anything new to offer, everything is identical to NG++ I think so my game is 100% completed now and I loved it a lot.

NG+ is enough if you want your own 100% because by doing NG+ you will have all the special amulets, as well as the special weapons and that is pretty much all the interesting stuff you want.
See - my strat is "Unless you 100% want it/plan to build around it, don't spend boss souls until the last boss."

Can't recall a situation off the top of my head where this was the case on one of the other games, but I figure it could at any time, and so I just do this last so I can grab it all, level, then go into NG+.

However - here I don't think it's too painful. You need to beat the game again sure, but it will only take around 15 hours now vs what it did the first time. There are some new items (+1
"armors" and amulets), plus another P-Organ tier, so just rip through everything else and do this. Bonus - Golden Records can only be acquired in NG+ cycles, so you would need to do so for achievements anyway.

The arm of god amulet is actually a really good one. It really sucks that if you want to take it for your build you just have to pass up on a quartz.
