Honestly, I used greatsword of fate blade way too much.
Acidic Cleaver (or whatever it's called) is actually amazing for physical builds. It does nearly as much damage as holy sword, then you slap that on the Krat baton handle...
Honestly, the big thing about this game is the handles. Thanks to there being no stat requirements for weapons we have true freedom.
It was then I realized that building Balance is the strongest way to play the game.
You could also do the Mjolnir hammer and baton handle to make a thor build.
You used the other two suggestions I had with the exploding pickaxe handle and circular saw blade.
If you don't mind a B in motivity after using a crank try out the dancers curved sword handle.
Both fire Axe and bramble charge r2 gives a lot of distance.
I still like the holy ark's alternate form. Can just switch to heavy mode to completely demolish bosses once they're down.
This combo has everything - damage, range, speed. So far haven't found anything that beats its performance.
Also a big fan of Seven-Coil Spring Sword for its moveset, but it does fall behind a bit in terms of damage.
You can get any weapon with initial B scaling to A by using appropriate crank, which let you focus on other stats rather than pushing two damage scaling stats up. I also like to invest into some Vigor as stamina usage with heavier weapons and guarding is quite high.
This combo reduces your damage as Bone-cutting sawblade does slash damage while the handle focuses on stab. It is hard to quantify how much is the reduction but the game indicates it is a reduction by downward arrow in the damage type section.
I like Greatsword of Fate handle Fable art but moved away from it. There is another handle that has the same art, not sure which one but you can try that one.
Obvious downsides are not-so-great attack speed (though running light attack is decent) and a hefty stamina consumption, which makes it hard to use against bosses and some mini-bosses. Everything else, though - perishes on the spot. A well-spaced charged heavy stops even elites in their tracks.
A niche combination, but damn is it fun.
