Basically I just treated it like Malenia's Waterfowl Dance. Avoid as much as possible, accept that I'm probably going to take some damage there, and try to end the fight quick so I don't have to see it again.
edit: double dodged with p-organ ability and with the amulet that allows you to dodge even with no stamina.
If you fail to stagger, make sure you're at max health & stamina and spam roll as soon as he starts attacking, you should avoid enough damage to survive through full combo, I advise against parrying unless you are a parry god.
1. You can definitely run away from him for half of the time. I have invested 10 or so points into Stamina so I could run for quite a while. You will have to guard and dodge last few hits, probably 3 or so.
2. Break his sword by perfect guarding. Once his weapon is broken, the encounter becomes must easier and his flame imbued phase is less painful. Watch out for Fury attacks, those still hurts even with broken weapon.
3. Make sure you equip best fire resistance gear.
4. Use Greatsword handle for its Fable art that guarantees perfect guard. This combined with running away early should mitigate most of his attacks during this flame imbued phase.
