Creating a new savegame would work yes, but it's not really necessary. Drop timers are initiated with proximity, so if you havn't been to areas yet to initiate that drop timer, then it should trigger as your new setting immediately. It's only the areas that you have been to during the old setting that may still have an active timer on it counting down from the initial setting. Once those timers are finished and you get a drop from that specific spot, the next timer will be your new setting.
