The best way to feed base-pals ?
Title !

I haven't played for a year, and i see there is potatoes and more.
Are the berries still the way to go, to feed the pals in my base ?

Prunellia is super OP as well for harvesting if you can breed/catch those. Just swapping a tier 5 Frost Noct with a maxed out one of those my harvest yields went from 30 to 38 with nothing else and with the other research buffs i'm able to push out about 500 salad/day... needless to say i have 9999 salad in every food dish now lol.

You could also try going for Pizza too. Good satiety alongside bonuses to work speed AND a slight delay before hunger starts to decay again.

Edit: I seem to have made my post advocating for Pizza at the same time as someone saying to avoid Pizza. Hrm. I can see their point but wouldn't that be offset by things like the one Wave Generator and having an emotional support Shroomer/Shroomer Noct to help with Sanity loss?
Yeah there's definitely different strategies for multiple things in this game based on whether the player uses shroomer/s or not.

Hmm... yeah. I guess it depends where in the game you are. My experience, it went from Berries to Jam Toast (Whatever its called). Later, when the electric stove was available, my Jormuntide Ignis became a pizza chef. I mostly use the smaller pals to farm the ingredients, and so they don't eat too often. Pal size is definitely a factor, I believe.
2 berry fields per 10 pals. That easy if you dont care about bonuses or humanitarism towards virtual pals.

I see, well with the salad they eat WAY less often, jesus. That's so much better as they take less food breaks.

Yeah, the moment you're able to have Lettuce and Tomatoes at the same time, opening up the Salad Bar, so to speak, should be your first priority in order to stabilize your food situation. Just make sure you are producing enough, is all. Lettuce seems to grow slower and in less amounts than Tomatoes, as in my current farm setup I have four fields of each growing and I have like... 8 Tomatoes to 1 Lettuce. And with 3 bases running all at once, I don't have enough Salad to go around.

So it might be a good idea, to help save on ingredients, to diversify which base gets what. My two bases get Minestrone while my other one, for the time being, gets Salad. When I get my main farm workforce going I'll be expanding the operations to get Minestrone and Pizza on the menu but for right now, it works.
The (baked) berries are just good to start with.

But as soon as you can get yourself a Bushi cook and a decent farm, you should make something better.

also avoid the trap of pizza, it might seem like an upgrade from salad but the satiety speed reduction means longer time between meals and a greater strain on sanity.
It does work tho if you have the alpha/beta wave generators and a couple of the mushroom pals on your base. But just straight up pizza and nothing else? yeah, it's a trap.

honestly the best food in my opinion is french fries, 35 satiety and 10 sanity. Your pals will be happy as a clam, tho they will be eating often.

You should consider what your base is doing too. If you're doing hard work like mining, you want high satiety high sanity food. If you're just farming/ranching, long lasting food that you don't need to replace that gives middling to large satiety but no sanity is fine.

True, even fried eggs since they are super accessible.

lol, I never baked berries. It went from fried eggs to salad. Eggs in the beginning, because early pals are trash at farming. Just one or two chikies to feed whole early-mid game. Then salad, because I'm not wasting cake ingredients to make other junk, and the farm ratios are much better balanced for both.

But it's super easy to get a Petallia since they are at the first wildlife sanctuary, but your idea has merit lol, I will try it when I start a new game, it's ridiculously easy to raise the chicken passive at lv2.

Santuary 1 is about level 19(hard at that level). You can already start breeding at that point and don't even need to go there to get a petallia anymore, and you can already start getting ready to make salad by the time you get one.

If your finances are in order, I immediately start buying Chikipi meat from the survival settlement and put dumud in a ranch. Depending on my progress, I'll also put chikipi in but I usually also buy eggs and just farm berries due to their constant demand.

It's tier 3 food that gives slight boost to work and good san reduction. It's cheap and super accessible once you reach cooking pot. Bonus, you can dedicate the pals you'd spend farming on mining until you can produce better foods.

Just make sure you're advancing enough that you don't drain all your food. It works great, but it's a race to produce enough money to make it viable long-term due to early game financial strain. It is not a meal you afk with until you can afford it. I never ran out, but it's worth noting.

If you can't make money, hang a black marketeer and melt him with a campfire. Hit him once and you'll get 10k. It'll do.

Edit: I meant Chikipi Saute, it's just Chikipi and berries and gives you the immediate speed boost of salads before salads are unlocked. Everything above is what I use after.

Berries lower efficiency. Lower sanity means they take more breaks. It doesn't fill them so they take more breaks to eat. Salads also have a work speed bonus. So you are just nerfing the hell out of base productivity by sticking to berries.

One slight problem to keep in mind.
Chikpi aren't guaranteed to be near initial spawn in a randomizer world.

In mine for instance, I haven't encountered a Chikpi in the wild, yet.
(Took me ages to find Lamball)
-----

Besides, until you can condense Chikpi and get them producing lots of eggs, you might struggle to feed an entire full base in early-game.
Whereas Baked Berries provide a quick and cheap food source until you're ready for the next mass-produced menu item.

But to be honest, I rarely worry about Sanity, as a Hot Spring is usually top priority for me.
(My current base, I even have them set to Relaxed workload, as I'm not that desperate for immediate production. And the Sanity savings is helpful (especially as I haven't found regular Kelpsea yet, so Pal Fluid is at a premium right now))
