When I did my playthrough, he was so bugged between "aerial and ground mount" that I flew over water with him, he ran out of stamina and then on the water he started to take damage and stamina was not refilling...
Now use any other flying pal (tested with Nitewing, Felaris and Vanwyrm). If they run out of stamina over water, they lower down, land on the water and then recover stamina.
Shadowbeak is so weird. But ok, it has legs and wings and therefore maybe doesnt can land onto water but sinks in. But still weird xD
That's because Shadowbeak doesn't float/levitate, the same happens with Frostallion. Floating is an actual mechanic believe it or not, Pals with this property cannot drown, cannot take fall damage (only relevant to wild Pals) and won't burn when on lava.
If flying and carrying you is a thing they can do, they are treated as flying. I think it's Pocket Pair's way to force people to slow down and actually explore.
Can I really fly above the ant air can reach?
What's really annoying is that a tower can detect and lock onto you even if there's a mountain between you and it. It should do this when it has direct line of sight to you and only receive presence warnings from these systems until that happens.
