Building system is traumatizing
So far inferior to other building games.

- Foundation "Not placed on the ground" when connected to a foundation that is. Ok, can I place a piece below it to make it touch the ground? Nope
- Can hang a wall down from the air, but not attach a foundation at the bottom to make it count as support. Sinking the wall also doesn't count as support.
- Even though the top floor of a house was placed and counts as having enough support, can't attach a wall to it due to lack of support.

What's needed:

- The ability to place a foundation lower if it counts as floating (or stack 2 on each other) so you can build somewhere that isn't 100% flat.
- Ability to attach foundations to hanging pieces like walls to add new support.
- If a floor is supported, walls attached to it should also be supported.
- Columns, either attached to a center of a floor piece or the corner. Doesn't matter, but having to use foundations and walls spaced out as a support for an elevated structure looks ridiculous, wastes a lot of space, and causes pals to get stuck all around.
- Fences, so we can add balconies / boundaries around elevated areas that you can see over.

PLEASE! It's so so so limiting that I can't add foundation points to a structure. All it would take is letting foundation pieces snap to walls or stairs like all the other pieces do, but they don't. It makes it completely impractical to build bases anywhere but giant flat areas.

Let us add a second foundation point!

I agree. It was a constant struggle for me to. Trying to make walkways on a mountain for my pathing-challenged pals was supremely frustrating due to "Not placed on the ground".

It was bad enough I won't make a mountain base again, which is really a damn shame because that's where bases look coolest imo.

I'd say the overall snapping is a problem. this happens even when you're trying to place a wall adjacent from the last. I repeat: just when you're trying to place your next wall.

frustration.

I'd also throw in some more roof pieces, like two intersecting.
Also a chimney as a decoration.

I got to trick the game often to get things to work I will place a wall, then i can place another floor then break the first etc, a lot building tricks you should not have tot use, wonder if a mod out yet to unlock the restrictions

Yes, two in fact. Both available on nexus

I completely agree. I had the same struggle with my first base, I quickly realised at this point in EA I would need a large flat area to build everything. The Pal's path-finding isn't great at this point ether, I'm guessing that has something to do with it. Hopefully they'll improve both in the near future.

We need ceilings to be able to snap to foundations, and we need pilars that can snap to ceilings and if they touch the ground, count as foundations.

Took years for Ark to fix some of those issues and if I remember correctly they simply hired the modder that made the better building system.

It is still early in the game's life for everything to be fleshed out.

Please just copy Satisfactory and let me build absurd floating structures.

Buildings seem so useless that I haven't even wanted to build one. It just seems like something to get pals stuck.
If they had giant doors for the buildings, they might seem more useful. I don't think you can snap the big gate door on a regular building, or maybe you can?

Agree that the building is somewhat frustrating right now. Probably the weakest point in the game in my opinion.

I tried to make a castle with the big gate only to realize it doesn't snap. I tried to attach it to 2 defensive walls only to realize they aren't the right width. I did the gate with 2 tilted defensive walls so it looks good from the front, but the I have a gap from above that nothing will plug (have 1 ceiling there with 2 triangular holes on the sides).
I also tried to add a breeding farm to the top of a structure, but I kept on getting a message about how ALL floor tiles need to be connected to the ground. The farm is already huge and on top of that I can't even put it on a building to save space?!

I've noticed some bugs with triangle walls, since they look like they're designed for the sides of stairs. Despite this, I keep on getting an overlapping object message.

Ark didn't have those issues, not even when it launched. It had some other problems in it's building system which were largely sorted out soon after launch, thanks to the community providing feedback....kinda like this thread :P

Overlapping object is annoying, because it tends to ignore height difference. I built stairs up above my mining base and built a whole new floor there to build a house (since the space isn't overly big on top of a mountain). I had the pal viewing boxes (basically 40 slot pal storage) below and it kept saying overlapping (trees do the same sometimes). It also says that when they glitch out from the viewing box and display somewhere in the base. The game treats them as real and stops you from building until you empty the box again.
