I know this might sound crazy to understand, but this conversation is about Steam( i.e. Valve) and Palworld reaching an apparent legal settlement for using AI work. 'Cause ya know, anything AI belongs to Steam specifically or whatever.
They claimed that on Jan 27th Palworld was going to be removed from the Steam Stores so Steam could investigate if AI was used or not, despite not even needing to remove the game from the stores to do such an investigation. Evidently instead they reach a legal settlement in a non legal scenario.
In other words, Vegangamer here is an idiot, or a troll
He already reworked it to be legally distinct it's pretty funny now. It's literally just real-life animals colored like the pokemon they are suppose to be
They filed what is called a Divisional Patent. Essentially they took an already established patent (so its not technically a "new" patent) and split it into multiple smaller Patents. The new divisional patents are enforceable based on the Parent Patent. In this case I believe the parent patent nintendo used for the divisional established in 2021 (it was tech used in archeous). That means the patents although filed in 2024 are enforceable from 2021.
P.S. I hope nintendo loses
Considering Pocket Pair's track record in unfinished and broken games, this one being complete reeks of everything nintendo is accusing them of.
Nintendo will likely just shut down the game servers. If you own the software, you own the software. They can't take it away since you bought a license to use it. However, I wouldn't expect it to ever see another update or anything...
This they got no case its diffrent enough to lose any copywright claim which is how they win. Also its a company with millions of bucks so they can't just brow beat them into submission lol Like since they done their lawsuit for patents which is no patents listed yet, just fanboys claiming ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, and patent lawyers gone on record they don't know about japan but they looked at some their patents and they will not hold up in a USA court and likely get their patents disovled after this.
Like I got better odds of wing a few grand on powerball tonigth then nintedo does on winning this lawsuit its for face that is it. If they don't more people will challange their patents and things they got rep of being a big bully and touch their stuff and you go to court. So they got keep rep or people start stealing more again and not paying them any licnese fees for their ♥♥♥♥.
But fanboys going it took code, its like this UNREAL that is UNITY You can't copy paste code from unity into unreal lol Myth of Empires had to settle because it was the SAME GAME ENGINE and some elegidly stole bits of code and took with them when they worked at snail. there is no former gamefreak employee accused of stealing code lol. The best they got is "well um we own capture balls?" Its like my man I got 10 games in my steam library with that mechanic right now lol
There is literally zero chance that Palworld shuts down over this. What a dramatic post. It already looks like Nintendo is doing this out of spite and jealous of Palworld success. If anything happens, which is doubtful imho, they might change some things a bit.
However, Palworld passed legal before starting sales. Not worried in the least. Love Palworld and cheers to the devs on a great game.
The fact that Palworld is still posting patches is a very good indicator that even the devs dont take this lawsuit seriously. They are also backed up by Sony so Nintendo cant even pull the "we are a big corpo here in Japan so you have to listen to us" as Sony is even bigger.
Nintendos patent is also so generic that its hilarious. Many lawyers assume Palworld will go for having Nintendo lose its patent (as in it shouldnt have been granted in the first place. Which is a thing)
They're taking the threat kind of serious. They're not flat out ignoring it. They made a post saying they will have to pull back on development a bit to focus on the legal issue.
I don't know what patent they hold that is being (in their eyes) violated.
They take it serious in a way of that they can't ignore it (duh). They don't take it as serious as in this being a major threat to them overall. Even if they lose the Patent Lawsuit it wouldnt hurt them as much as Nintendo would love to.
And I sincerely doubt Sony is just sitting there idle. It will likely end up as Nintendo VS Pocketpair backed up by Sony especially since they just launched the early access on the PS5 in Japan 2 days ago as well.
