So what's up with the Giant Tree?

I tried to check it out using one of the Water Pals you can ride on.
It seems like there's an invisible wall that blocks you from the upper 1/3 of the map.

I know there isn't much for lore/story, but is anything mentioned in the game about what that giant tree is?

That tree is heavily protected. Even if you fly over the red world border (it doesn't go all the way to the top of the world for some reason), there's a second invisible wall around the tree itself that does go all the way up and can't be flown over in any way. The devs *really* don't want people going there. You can walk on part of that island but that's it.

The top of the tree also looks really scuffed from up close, complete with paper thin leaf textures meant to give the illusion of a full tree from far away. If that's meant to be future content, they'll need to fix it up a bit first.

The tree, I believe, will turn out to be Yggdrasil. But that is just my theory.

For now you can't go to giant tree. Reason there is a red barrier stopping you to go there.

The tree makes it clear that this takes place in the same continuity as Elden Ring.

you can fly there onto the island .. or fly around the crown and roots

the barrier on top of water is not that high .. but there are another barriers near the tree, invisible and for the full height so they cant be avoided
there is nothing though .. low textures, currently unreleased content, probably for the future .. i give it 13-18 months before its accessible

you can actually fly beyond the map borders too .. but there is nothing, just water
