advice for finding waypoints?
tldr; is there an easier way to find waypoints without repositioning/crafting them? or is it pure luck and chance?

-----------------

currently not in a position where I can reposition waypoints or create them, so I gotta explore.

I've finally reached the biome where scarlet ore is introduced, and I've explored a ton of ground. yet I am unable to find a waypoint. eventually I find myself looping back to the route that leads outside of the biome to unload all the stuff I've gathered and give it another go, which is slowly draining me.

is there an easier way to find waypoints without repositioning/crafting them? or is it pure luck and chance?

The waypoints spawn near boss areas.

You can get a "holographic pad" from the Malugaz statue that lets you build boss scanners so you just need to explore the area around the boss to find the waypoints.

Though in Ocatarine tier (the next tier after Scarlet ore) you can build your own portals. Just make sure to stockpile mechanical parts from the merchant whenever he sells them.

For what it's worth, that absurd crafting cost is likely there because the game expects you to have excavation sites set up at ore boulders, with each boulder containing 1800 ore in it.

They could do a small QoL tweak to the recall idols to let you also port back to where you used it rather than just a single return to the core only to face a long trip out.

I have a suspicion that travel in this game was made so taxing in order to encourage actual optimization of travel - building minecart tracks, clearing pathways towards waypoints, etc. This is the first terraria-like in which I actually bothered setting up traveling infrastructure.
Clearing to waypoints requires a decent way of actually finding them, first one you find is likely by the blob which is so close to home its a joke. Next boss is the worm that does laps so its down to dumb luck to find that waypoint (or the boss summon spot) without having to run the lap.

Once malugaz is down finding bosses certainly becomes easier but the related waypoints still require a lot of wandering.

The slime statue actually has scanners for the two bosses, which at least helps with Malcolminthemiddle, seeing as the the Gigagrub doesn't hang out near its summon spot.

I do, however, agree that exploration needs some severe touching up. Made a thread about it meself.

That's good, I have been calling him MegaLOLs because I can't remember his actual name.
