Never seen a pet hurt, they are leveling I think.

Ya, they can't get hurt. They might get a debuff temporarily but those always wear off.

EDIT: The bar you see above the pet is it's XP.

I think they might mean the animals or live stock.

I suspect the "health bar" you are seeing is actually it's XP bar, meaning it just leveled up.

Look at the pet details in your inventory and you'll see more detail on how much XP it has.

Just ignored your pet bird/cow/sheep/turtle. All animal have ability cast slow auto heal them self.

You can actually see like little green animation from them that they start to slow heal them self over times.

i've seen npcs heal but never seen that animation happen on the pet

You mean the that bird follow you around all day. Just ignored it. Not like they can die any
way.

Yes, pets can't take damage that I've seen, and I've seen my pets go through a lot.
