Root plant not growing

Hi I made a root farm where all nodes are exposed to free tiles or other roots (not nodes). I checked for stalagmites underneath and there were none. Is there a limit to how much root can grow in an area and what it is? If there is a root limit, is it based on the 16x16 chunks?

Do you have to water it after it has sprouted?

You water it after it is planting, then it will slowly grow through several stages before it's a mature plant, after that it will gradually put roots out.

You only need to water it once.

I think they just grow until they run out of room.

Roots have like 5-6 tiles reach

Roots also won't grow into a space where another could grow..... so if you have

[Root] [Space] [Root]

...neither root would grow into the space between.

Did you till or use the hoe on the tile the seeds are planted in?

I already took down the farm, i too suspect it was at max size
