What is still breaking the spawning tiles in my mob farm?
For now I'm doing the simple method of making stripes of spawning tiles in a 14x14 square, then putting traps on top of them in a checkerboard pattern.

I excluded the stone cavelings because the big guy tends to get angry and break everything...

But I'm still finding pieces of 2-4 tiles floating in the air every so often. Whatever is causing it, it isn't breaking the traps on top, just somehow damaging the tiles underneath.

It's got most of the monster spawning materials, including a strip of mold terrain... but ya, I'm confused about what's going on.

EDIT: It doesn't have desert block, the mold blocks is the only unique terrain type in the square.

There only few enemy would do this. That will be.... Brute Mushroom(by fighting another enemy)/Caviling Miner(like to break walls)/Caveling Brute(by fighting another enemy)/Bomb Scarab(self destruct at low Heath Bar).

I pretty sure its not that Sulfur Worm. Who the right mind want to build their base there in the the Passage biome. You have to remove all the ground or cover all the floor to stop them from spawning.

Go find better durable walls that is harder for them to break your walls or start digging holes around your walls will do the trick.

Some enemies can drop their spawning moss on death, maybe you're merely seeing those drops rather than broken spawner tiles.

Maybe the shotgun from the hunter caveling (wilderness) damages structures, too, similar to 2nd attack of a fireball staff which can damage walls.

My only guess is the Brute Mushroom... though I never see it gain any momentum to actually hit something because the spike traps constantly interrupt it.

I don't have sulfur stuff yet, and it's not just extra drops, the stuff on the ground is missing with the tiles floating just above it.

Maybe I'll try removing the mushroom tiles on one of the farms and see if it stops then.

High chance it was this

Again, it's not that, because the tiles are missing from the ground.

Hmm.... Only way that happen is. You been using mix other monster spawn type with clay moss/stone moss that can spawn Caveling Brute that don't like any monster that are not Caveling and they also hate mold Caveling/Mold Tentacle. Other Caveling enemy don't seem to be bother by Core Sentry.

I been mixing all clay moss/stone moss/lush moss/urban moss/valley moss all together with maze wall build around it. Nothing went wrong with it. All those caveling get along just fine.

The only thing I don't mix with clay/stone/moss/urban/valley moss is..... Any ground slime spawn/mushroom ground/Chrysalis/Crystal Crust/mold ground. They will start a fight against each other.

So I took the mushroom moss out and it kept happening... but I think now that it's the Mimite that's causing damage to the other tiles at random.

You know the fast way to test this out. Test on creative mode. Turn out that Mimite are the problem on attacking other monster like Caveling.
Several weapons have strong secondary attacks which may break "decorative" items when hit. I don't know which of them may affect spawn tiles.

I have only a small mob farm but I noticed that putting traps on the spawn tiles is not that efficient, at least in my case when farming for gems.

I use 10 rooms (each using a part of 4 neighbouring 16x16 size spawn cells) to spawn mobs and a system of conveyor belts to transport all the mobs to a single small trap chamber where they are destroyed and where I can easily pick up all the loot.

Have you tried to seperate the areas for spawning and fighting / traps.

Eventually I will upgrade to something like that. I've done smaller ones in pre 1.0. Right now it's just ease of setup because I'm still working on other things, I just walk through on occasion collect the scattered stuff on the floor.
