Just dirt wall alone do the trick to keep them out. UNless you don't like dirt wall use any desert block around area as wall. Those lady bug won't be able to blow up in 1 hit any way.
After getting a few hundred bars, I don't even bother going back to check the mines until they have had plenty of time to run out and smelt all the bars... that might be easier.
What you can tilling is that Valley Moss that spawn Caveling Assassin. As long those guys is not around fighting Bomb Scarab(lady bug). Those Bomb Scarab(lady bug) will wonder around aimlessly not blowing up any thing.
I may try this in future, too.
Repeatedly bomb scarab groups spawned inside my small desert outposts below placed stuff, dismantling portals, chests, drills, etc which were placed on these tiles.
