quality : higher quality = higher stats bonus
traits
consumed materials effect eg : ingot gear synth atk+12 etc...
when synth equipment aim for highest effect you want like shinning night sky XL... etc
unless you are playing on legendary that should be enough to beat most bosses with just basic gears
for item just give them the best traits you could
Lower difficulty if you arent playing at lowest already. You can buy some ok equipment from the shop sometimes. Its not hard making ok equipment either, even if you are bad at alchemy. Just use some basic stats traits and transfer them to the equipment you are making.
1. Mix ATK Charge with SPD Charge for ATK-SPD Charge
2. Mix DEF Charge with SPD Charge for DEF-SPD Charge
3. Mix both of the above for All Stat Charge
4. Do the same with "Boost" for All Stat Boost
5. Make metals and clothes with those two traits while also having the most gear synthesis bonus effect you can get on them, and add Parameters +5% or better too if possible.
6. Transfer it to all type of gears - weapons, armor, accessory and talisman, all of them with both All Stat Boost and All Start Charge (and % parameters for the armor).
This should give a total of at least +120 to all stat to all characters, which is enough to get you through anything in the base difficulties.
I recommend using Red Neutralizers, Yellow Neutralizers (with Add Stone effect), Flour, Zettel and Pure Water for your mixing of traits.

Then also you want to use "Enhance the Body", "Barrage Attack", "All Stats Supercharge", and "Parameters +8%", "Skill Charge", "Very Devastating" on various equipment/items since you can't get certain higher tier traits yet. Once you get farther in the game that Sophie is going after the elemental things then you should be able to make stronger traits for the next bosses. (in addition to the "Develops the Body" go for "Skill Supercharge", etc.)
For this specific boss I had trouble with near a certain big tree I would use a draco bomb when the boss summoned other monsters to immediately clear them. Also the character's skills (like a physical charge attack) can more consistently shatter the boss's aura shield (dealing 3 or 4 damage to the shield per attack) then bombs unless the boss has a specific weakness you can exploit with current available bombs. For example a water boss can be broken and you can deal major damage and delay its turns by just throwing lightning bombs at it, with every character in the party, over and over again... But this isn't an option on other bosses.
In the early game you can use the 5 neutralizers, the oil recipe, pure water, zettel, etc to move the traits around and eventually merge then into a pure water/zettel/neutralizer then put them into ingots and bombs.
I can show pictures of the equipment I made to beat this certain big boss on very hard if anyone needs help.
