Semiofficial Experimental Mod Support
I've been working on proper mod support (adding/editing content) for Wrestling Empire, and I'm currently looking for people who want to help out with testing it.
I got approval from MDickie for this, and he'll soon be promoting it once everything is set up right.
Currently supported are adding custom music themes and costume textures, as well as overriding most sprites. Characters are being worked on right now.
The content-adding mod itself, installation instructions, and documentation for how to add content can be found here[github.com].
I made a modding Discord[discord.gg] where you can send your feedback and report any bugs. It's preferred to message me there, as I don't check on Steam very often.
Spreading the word about this would be much appreciated.

Well I for one don't know crap about modding a game like this but I look forward to see what happens and applaud the effort.

This is another big hint that Dickie's done with the game. His parting gift
BS. MD has always been supportive of modding. He used to host a massive mod for Wrestling Revolution on his site that changed all the wrestlers to their real world versions.

The idea for this type of mod support came from me, not from Mat. He also asked me if there's anything he can do on his end to make the game more modder friendly. Right now the game is quite difficult to mod due to obfuscation and the code generally not being receptive to major changes, but I'm experienced and dedicated enough to work through that.
He does actually seem to care about modding, and here are some quotes from our mail exchange to prove that:
"I do normally like to expose the media for people to edit, but that doesn't come naturally to Unity and I haven't yet found a satisfactory way to do it."
"Please elaborate on your solution when it's ready, however, and I'll see if it's something I can either recommend or include officially."
"I also like how it adds to the existing installation without ever replacing it. This is the compromise that everybody has been waiting for, so I can indeed promote it whenever you're ready to do so."
I don't see any reason to believe he's "done with the game", as it's still consistently receiving updates.

this looks really cool

sorry if this is a reach to ask but will there be support for adding cheats/gameplay modifiers in the future? Or is that like a whole different thing?

Keybind cheats like the old games would definitely be possible. As I said before though, the code is quite difficult to work with, so figuring things out will generally take a lot longer for me than most other games I've modded. Theoretically, the sky is the limit, but with me being the sole C# mod developer at the moment, and because of the aforementioned reasons, progress will be slow unless either MDickie or more developers rise up.

I did end up making a mod with some cheats inspired by the old games. I posted it in the mentioned Discord and will soon post it on Thunderstore once the game is added in the upcoming days. Actual support for it, however, will probably not happen any time soon. This would require an API that essentially renames all the game's methods to a readable format, or Mat giving us a way to deobfuscate the names. The more popular modding gets, the more likely this is to happen, so promoting and sharing it is a great way to help out.

I for one am grateful for your efforts on this and Mat's willingness to work with you. I have always had good communication with him in the past. (before he became mr popular) I will try my hand at mod testing as well. Thanks again.

Got this working and replaced main theme and an arena texture for testing. I had to do a fresh game install before the BepInEx would hook in.

Glad to see that something is finally taking shape as far as making modding more accessible goes. If I knew anything about coding I'd be glad to help, but sadly the only mods I've ever made have been for myself, simple asset replacements and such which is the exact thing that you're working on to even make possible here. Hopefully more people can get involved to figure this out. I wonder if it's possible to script some sort of original mod manager for the game like Vortex from The Nexus works to install assets to Skyrim and other games?
