No doubt this will frustrate me later if I choose to play again though ;)
Personally i would have it completely changed, chapter select at any time + keep your collectibles. the immediate saving and overwriting really needs to be changed with a QOL patch/update. Let us have multiple saves and/or let us have a true chapter select at anytime after you beat the game AND a persistent collectible list
This is how it is on PC; you can do such tricks by moving your save(s) out of the folder it normally stores them and come back to them later. Or to back them up so you yourself can do a fresh play-through without wiping out old save progress, or to allow someone else to play such as a friend or family member.
This is something we as PC Gamers are used to and this is how it is for MANY PC Games. Something that people coming over to PC who are used to Game Consoles would not know right off the bat.
This is another reason I ensure things like Steam Cloud Saving and MS OneDrive are disabled so it can't go and backup/restore and then screw me all up in the end.
Yes see that's going to cause problems over time if you ever plan to use the manual methods of backing/restoring save game progress files; or do a fresh play through. Sometimes it doesn't backup properly, or I've seen it restore an older save and screw up my new play-through.
I've had Steam Cloud turned off since around 2012; it's useless to me.
It's very easy to manually backup/restore your saves yourself over time.
GameSaveManager is also a great tool for this.
