Worth it for free roaming only?
I want to play this beautiful game like a Truck Simulator where I just cruise around the open world in first-person driving with music on the background to relax. I hate racing and don't intend on ever touching it let alone online so I'm asking if you think it's worth buying it solely for that purpose.

I think ETS and ATS look alright. Dated, sure, but they do the job. And graphics do not make the game, gameplay does - and gameplay is one thing those games do very well. Nothing quite like the chill relaxation they offer.

That's not to say I wouldn't mind if they brought out a newer version which ran better and all that...sure that'd be great. But I do still think the games are worth playing, even now, and understand why they are popular.

There was this game back in the day. Test Drive Unlimited. In terms of free roaming with traffic in sports cars still the best.

It's not and why people still say this..... The game has aged and the handling is awful. You can have an agenda and an opinion but do you understand that FH5 has a SOLO mode in which there is plenty of traffic and traffic that you can challenge? Online I couldn't care as bot cars get in the way for completing non race events.

You must be joking. The traffic in FH5 is laughable even if it's there. The roads make no sense, there's no lights for traffic to obey. Have you seen how hilariously out of proportion the roads are in this game? Not something you notice at first, but once you've seen it you can't immerse yourself into the world for just free roam. It's a fantasy land.

Why do you need lights lol. To reference a quote from FH4.
Where we are going we don't need roads
OMG I'm dying here.

Not really...map is too small for that, traffic too thin...would be very boring.

Odd question. It's like asking if you could play Mario or Sonic as a walking simulator.
Dundo 2021 年 11 月 30 日 下午 1:38
"Am i going to have fun if i play WoW as a single player linear story-driven RPG?" Clearly, the answer is no. And clearly the answer to this question is no as well. You're better off playing Grand Theft Auto or any Euro Track title. Forza is an arcadey racing game that heavily relies on dopamine rush by throwing cars at you and high octane activities. This does not sound like something you're looking for at all. The Open World could literally not be there and game wouldn't change much. Open World is just for goofing around, getting skill points and playing high octane minigames.

Cruising? Sure it's fun, but it's nowhere near the main draw of the game nor will you enjoy it as such.

Given that you like trucks, just download GTAV, get a truck, drive around, murder a hooker and get on with your day. Sounds right up your alley.

If you want free-roam I would go with The Crew 2. FH5's map is way too small for free-roam only gameplay. It will get boring pretty fast. The Crew 2 is perfect for that kind of gameplay. You can drive for hours and never see the same place twice.
Zero McDol 2021 年 11 月 30 日 下午 2:01
You'd be better off with The Crew 2 honestly as it has a much bigger map. Up to you OP.

If by "crap" you mean visually, you are wrong, ATS and ETS2 are wonderful games, not the latest engine out there, but the beauty isn't in reflections, in textures, etc. It's in the overall vibe, the scenery. And no one should compare truck simulators to Forza Horizon 5. Two different pleasures. The Truck Simulator series is all about being in the trucker role, just driving, enjoying it. And the whole mechanics, IA, and freedom given by the devs make it a wonderful series.

ATS and ETS are HORRIBLE games, with a completely obsolete engine that doesnt even use more than one core, with visual quality that honestly im amazed people even have the guts to play it, so much aliasing everywhere that is completely disgusting, shimmering all over the place in amounts that ive never seen in any other game, making the driving experience a complete idiocity, you cant even admire the landscape anymore, more than that, the devs refuse to actually work on the game engine to actually improve the game, and the only thing they do year after year is DLCs with lousy expansions that as of late are completely garbage, or idiotic and half-baked additions instead working on important things. They know people will buy every single dlc because thats the only thing keeping the games alive (that and mods, of course) and that people get excited for whatever new idiocity and useless feature they add to the game.

I never understood why the community of those games is so frikkin idiot and lost. And yes ive been playing ATS and ETS2 since 2014. But enough is enough.

And i am one of those that always say that if the devs could work on the game engine, to allow it to use more than one core (like every frikkin game) and if they implemented FULL DX11 support, they worked on the AA, etc.. they ACTUALLY improved the lighting (not the opposite like they did...) the game could look incredible. But until all that happens, ATS and ETS2 are probalby the most terribly looking sim games you can play.

The only reason i play them is because i use nvidia profile inspector to get decent AA and get rid of some shimmering. If not, i would not be able to play at all. I really like my eyes working in normal conditions.

But get it in your head, the only reason ATS and ETS2 are alive today is because of the modding community and because they have great support for wheel+pedal. Thats it. Dont even think that one of the reasons is the actual visual quality of the game.. for god's sake.

Visual quality should never be the reason of loving or playing a game. ETS, ATS aren't the best visual experience out there, no one said that. But deeper than the visuals, those games are just about driving, chilling, trucking, nothing more. And they do it so well, you can't deny that. Visuals come after mechanics, immersion and overall quality. And to be honest, I find those games pretty good for already years released games.

Specifically for Forza 5, the map is nowhere near big enough to keep one occupied cruising and exploring alone. I'm also one of those who likes to just drive around and explore, and I had seen pretty much all the map had to offer within 3 or 4 hours of game time. If you aren't interested in the races and other stuff, and are just looking to cruise exclusively, then this game will not provide you with much entertainment at all.

There's no way you have seen all the map in 3-4 hours of game place. That's a bit of exaggeration. I've got a little over 50 hours into it and I still need 50 XP boards, and a few parts of the map that I'm just unlocking the campaign for it now. It's the first time I've played the game so you might have one up on me there, but there still ain't any way someone can see it all that fast.

On the other hand, it's an expensive game and buying it solely for random driving around isn't going to justify the price in my opinion. There are plenty of $4 exploration games on Steam.

It's not scheduled to be out until next year, but I'm thinking this might scratch your itch better than Horizon5 would. I played both previous iterations of TDU, and you can definitely just cruise and enjoy beautiful scenery.

hyped for a game with the worst dev in the world ?
no gsync, no motion data, no VR, poor physics, stutter.....and I can continue.

my WRC 10 review from Kylotonn, the TDU crown maker.
