Simply put, this experience is way overpriced for what it is. This is a limited sandbox playground, with outdated VR mechanics. A lot of the interactions are push a square button to activate the mini-experience. After 15 minutes of playing, I really couldn't find much else to do. Plus, I have seen these concepts done better in other, much older games.

The visuals are basic. The interactions are limited. The activities are limited. I mean you can change the colors of blocks and try to build something. You can make it zero gravity, day or night, turns lights on or off, etc. You can shoot wands that have sparkle effects. You can shoot toy guns that have sparkles as well. You can press a button to take down all the walls or to explode fireworks around. You can open a door (by clicking on it). Toybox VR is a free experience on the Oculus store that was released in 2016 and is a more polished experience with better graphics & with more depth.

The environments are very basic. They look pretty similar. You have one song on the radio, although you can add your own. None of the items have sound, which is perplexing. You do have teleportation and snap turning available. The game is running on the Unity Engine and I was getting a steady 90 frames per second on my RTX 3080.

This game may be fun if you've never experienced VR before. However, if you're a VR veteran, I don't see any value with this experience. All this has been done better before. There's nothing new or innovative here. This feels like a make my first VR project in Unity type experience.

Jamie's Toy Box may be in Early Access - but it's still playable, exciting and fun to play.
I'm excited to see what the Developer introduces in future updates.

Sitting there makes me feel like a toddler. That's not a bad thing. But my life is so messed up that I'm unable to enjoy these little things. It reminds me of how old I am. I see a Saturn V model rocket and I think of the environmental implications of RP-1 rocket fuel as I let it fly away into the endless space that surrounds that room. I grab one of the magic wands, yet I have forgotten how magic works. I only see sparkles, someone else with a more innocent mind can probably see more. Maybe they can't, because that's literally what they do. Sparkle. Another magic blast pushes over the building blocks that formed the castle I would like to hide in. I draw a star on the drawing board. It's wonky but can't be bothered to figure out how to erase my mistakes, I probably threw the sponge away already.
I see a gun... I wonder if I can die in this fantasy...

As I leave the virtual reality, I'm back in my room. It's not as cozy, and there are no building blocks or magic wands (at least none that shoot sparkles). And I wonder what the meaning is behind all of this. It's too simple for a playground, doesn't have enough interaction for a game, not enough happens for an "experience", but somehow it makes me want to have that button that folds away the walls that enclose this prison cell, and they shall feature a wallpaper that suggest the vastness that lies beneath, to remind me that in a dream I can escape - and maybe I actually can. In Jamie's Toy Box I can't really. But what about the real life world? I should be able to do that stuff too. Yes.

It's supposed to be naive. I probably wouldn't have paid for it if I saw this while scrolling through the store - but I got this for free and am alive and eager to make something of myself. It leaves this aftertaste of hopefulness and innocence that I miss in most other games, I can't really describe it, it's weird. That's why I give it a thumbs up. And I like to help a small four-person project out. Well done.

Pretty neat! Exploding a huge pile of blocks never get old.
If you like physics, you will enjoy the game, especially in VR!

First off, HUGE THANKS to the Developer for the key. I was planning to buy the game but when he gifted the key, I appreciated it, That said, while the game concept is awesome I do have a few wishes for it,
Some better support for Oculus Rift platforms would be appreciated as I use the Rift S,
Steam Workshop Support would be amazing
Either way, SUPPORT THE GAME!
