Let's not pretend here. Epic is worse for many reasons but Epic also isn't terrible.

Epic is much worse as a store, no reviews or discussions, both preventing customers from being informed before a purchase.
It at least has it's own sales and often the same price. Still also has refunds.
As a launcher, it's fine.
It's social aspect lags behind.
Lacks the workshop for mods.

There's no reason not to get free games from Epic. But it in no way competes enough to replace steam. You couldn't even be having this discussion over on Epic, you had to have it here. That alone is why steam will never be replaced.

Both are alright, not everybody care about discussions or social aspects. Btw I have almost 400 games there, didn't spend a dime. Of course it will not replace Steam, no one said that. Each store serves its own purpose, if folks just want to play and have fun, both will do. Now if you care about other stuff, Steam or GOG is the place, since they offer more functionalities than Epic.

let's not forget the whole fact that epic games allows crypo/nft slop and scams on it, not to mention that over all, you're less protected from malware and scams on epic

Never got a single warning from bitDefensder while using the client. Also like I said I'm only there for free stuff, which obviously it's all checked and clean. Also there's the fact that no system is 100% safe, even Valve let a game with a malware slip on the store:

Anyway, I'm not defending Epic or anything, just reporting my experience and that I never experienced any problems there, just like on Steam btw.
