ye it always seems to get forgotten in these kind of threads so I posted it - and seeing as it's free there's no reason not to try it out.
Stay away from Dungeon Defenders Awakened, it's a hot mess of a cash grab.
first one was good; heavy power creep and massive time investment to get good gear (good lord survival on one of those shard maps you could literally sleep between) and it was heavy RNG; it was a good game though
they abandoned that... but they did make an excellent choice to hand it off to a community development team (who continued to push higher quality updates than anything trendy were doing)
they started on DD2... as a MOBA... it was horrendous; literally no one enjoyed it; they hastily remade it into a proper sequel and... it was meh; the development just had priorities in all the wrong places; early on you had a temporary loot bag that would auto sell after a set amount of time (and you could pull stuff out of it into your actual inventory)... it was a great system; it worked... so they removed it; which starts the most hellish inventory management sim you can imagine because you auto pick up everything... and then to make it worse they add a bunch of consumables; people complain that theyre somehow making the inventory management system worse... so they add a paid consumable holder AND more consumables... eventually they ghost DD2 (how long was the christmas event up? a whole year? it was close)
they move on to DD awakened; which is a remake of the first one... so you can just play the first one with more content; not sure what happened with awakened but they recently came back to DD2 and pushed out an incredibly meaningless update that addressed none of the core issues
... oh DD eternity also appeared at some point and thats just a worse mobile port of the original so huzzah
sorry; formerly massive trendy fan and they eroded any good will they built from the original by chipping away at it over and over again so they get my hackles up
sanctum is alright
kingdom rush is amazing (but highly recommend the steam versions because no microtransactions)
TD with a controllable hero element
sure its near top down with set building locations and god powers; but considering how scarce offerings of the genre are; it bears mention (especially as theyre good games)
