Someone please explain the second life mechanic

Since googling this didn't really yield any results. What I mean is this:
- My health reaches zero
- Character falls down
- Character then gets back up with another health bar, and now I'm in the umbral

What happens from this point exactly? The enemy I was fighting (first boss) reached zero health...then didn't die. Hit them several more times, they still didn't die. Am I supposed to be looking for something here?

Lamp is your second chance to fight your enemy on the spot you died (if you die in normal world).
Lamp makes the one who carries it (you the Lampbearer) immortal (that is why you rez after you die where you fell or at checkpoints) and able to travers betven normal world and pararel Umbral world.

You can get back to normal world by resting at checkpoints or interacting with umbral effigy.
Also by being killed in normal world your lamp will rez you in Umbral world in a spot where you have died (your quick rez) but if you die in Umbral world you get to be raised at the checkpoint you activated last.

But be warned!
If you go to Umbral world willingly or if you are pulled there by an enemy while you only looking in to Umbral world by holding up the lamp and then die there you dont get quick rez on the spot but you will rez at checkpoint.

As for the boss if it reached 0HP and did not die it is probably bug. Unless it has second stage with new full HP bar.

When you fight this one and when you kill him a second boss should flys in and it doesn't matter if you win or lose because second boss The Lightreaper first appearance is still part of story tutorial for Umbral world.

No the boss I was fighting was the angel looking chick. I think it was bugged because half her animations didn't seem to do anything and she didn't enter her second phase on my first attempt (got her health to zero but she didn't die either).

Ah I see. Pietas second stage is when she gets wings. Not all bosses will have new HP bar for there second phase. Some go in to second phase around -50% of their HP.
Did you manage to defeat her in second thry?
When you defeat her she shud go down and then cut scene shud pop up where she rez and falls off the bridge.

So y if she got bugged in any way just they restart fight or exit game, verify game the files and try again. Sorry that is all I got.

I killed her on the third attempt yesterday. And yes, in the second and third attempts she entered her second phase, wings and all.

It was the first attempt where this didn't happen weirdly. Still not sure why. Got her health all the way to zero, then she wouldn't die.

Nice. Glad to fight then went normal as it should. You probably just got little unlucky that it bugged in first try.

You can in this one too. At about half the rate you earn it. Molhu sells vigor skulls for a little less than twice their value, in unlimited numbers. So if you're carrying around a ton of scratch and don't want to spend it, you can bank it by buying vigor skulls.
