I do know people who can hop on dpad and/or play with analogs but yeah, it's hard to find a good pad with a decent dpad. PS4 dpad at least it's no good for hoping, I myself use a 8bitdo controller. I know ps4 controllers have better time response but i hate their dpads.
If you apply too much force or movement you overcompensate making the stick travel further into a direction past the activation point of the microswitch meaning you end up inputting the direction too long and increasing the time it resets to neutral.
But if you have the chance to try out different peripherals then definitely do so, just dont expect it to make things easier.
Additionally, I prefer the slightly concave dpad as well, but I have had to be more careful when inputting 623 or 236 on run up as a trade off, as KOF is very peticular about exact inputs and won't hold your hand if you accidentally hit one on the way to the other.
TLDR: Buy a sturdy controller with comfortable buttons to make tight inputs with peace of mind.
