Lost characters

[Totally Not Markus]

I was playing last week, and when I tried to start the game up I was relegated to the introduction, and then when I try to log back in (via Steam) I come up with the screen to only create a new character.
This only started recently, and uninstalling/reinstalling is not helping.
Is anyone else having an issue or potentially have a solution?
