Hi, dev here. Once again I didn't receive any notification from Steam about a new forum post, so I apologize about the late reply. You have likely moved on by now, but I'm going to reply anyway just for good measure.

It's not just you. The pause state of the previous demo version didn't allow any interaction (building, removing, etc). That was quite intentional, but it has since been changed. So this shouldn't be an issue anymore.
