Alchemy using materials. That's about all I know so far. You unlock alchemy in the BLC menu.

What idjk said. The first four options/"recipes" in the Alchemy menu are for the four essences, you'll need Dark Matter (found in Space) for all four recipes. The recipe for the Leaf Essence requires a material which can only be gathered in an endgame location, The Infernal Desert, unlocked w/ 50k MLC, so it'll be some time before you can unlock the 10 Cosmic/10 Leaf Essence area or the 200 Cosmic/200 Leaf Essence area.

As far as the recipes are concerned, there's an initial fee to "unlock" the recipe, after which you can brew as many times as you like with no increase in the material costs for that recipe. The essence recipes are split into two cost groups, with one group, the first two recipes, requiring 20 of each material and the second group, the second pair of recipes, requiring 50 of each material. Almost every alchemy recipe additionally requires 100 cheese; exceptions are the Earth essence recipe, which for some reason requires only 20 cheese, and recipes 5-8 in the Alchemy menu, which instead require certain amounts of flasks.

If you need Materials from an area you don't have, your best bet is the Claw Machine at The Cheese Pub. You can get Materials from any area there. Granted, it's only 1 Material for each time you grab it, which is painfully low, but if it's the only way it's the only way.
