Final Fantasy Rebirth - Not to Steam and PC ?
I just read in Gaming forums that the next part of FFVII remake is Not planned for PC and Steam ?!!? Only planned for PS 5 ! If this is so, shouldn't someone have told us this ? Or am I the only one who did not know this ?

There's no news until there is news. Whatever you believe at the moment, seems to be the most concrete news we got. The only definite thing we know at the moment is that PS4 will not get FF7 Rebirth, and this is due to devs wanting SSD integration to the game. And to be more specific, they want NVMe grade SSD.

PS4 has no way of adding NVMe SSD without using adapter, and its absolutely useless to do this, so ignore that. And they already have abandoned PS4 for Yuffie DLC just to make people buy PS5 (not that is available to many people for purchase) for whatever reason. Don't think it was elaborated. Nothing in Yuffie DLC seemed particularly PS5 worthy.

Many PC players interested in keeping up with tech and playing AAA titles already have PCs up to par or surpassing PS5. Even laptops nowadays have better specs than PS5. If anything, they will just increase minimum spec requirement for PC release when it happens.

The only real thing thats causing PS5 exclusivity is Sony and SE contract to release on Sony's preferred device first. And as the article you are quoting says no one knows for sure. Confirmed for PS5 now, just no news on anything else yet.

It is just that the recent practice of Sony has shifted towards console exclusivity coupled with PC release as Sony no longer sees PC as rival platform, but untapped market that they can earn extra revenue, and it seems to be working for them. So, its only speculation, but it just seems likely that it will eventually come to PC, just don't know when.

Anyway, if you want your hopes to be entertained, there is nothing out there to help you to be thrilled so keep your expectation low and be happy when it is fulfilled.

There is no doubt that FF VII rebirth will come eventually to PC, but that toxic relation with sony is cutting the wings to expand square enix influence in the PC market.

As they are both Japanese companies with a rather long-lasting business history, I can understand the need to work together. What I understand much less, if at all, is doing exclusivity with Epic, on PC. You're not really wrong of course, it really does seem like Sony is more stuck in the past and trying to bury their head in the sand in face of success of Xbox game pass and other evolving businesses.

I mean they could do what they did with intergate and make it a dlc but i feel like it could go either way

To be fair SqE likely isn't loosing money. Part of exclusivity contracts is that one party I e Sony pays SqE for lost revenue exclusivity ALWAYS means to sales.

You are however correct it can impact overall market penetration since it limits access and adoption in future titles within a given IP.

If anyone's loosing money, it would be sony regarding ps5 sales, or not. I haven't actually tried to find that out what ps5 sales are like now that the bottle necks seem to be clearing. It kinda depends on if enough people are interested in ps5 exclusives or not, and what Sonys internal targets were/are. My guess with a busy release year like this accross multible ips, platforms, and studios following the earlier ps5 shortages, ps5 likely won't ever rival ps2 or 4s. Thus a corsponding smaller potential audiece for exclusive reliant studios. But that's just a guess. It's a buyers market for gamers this year, I'm not so sure platform exclusivity is a good idea for studios (I get why Sony pursues them), for this year at least. But I'm not in marketing so could be way off base.

If a studio gets too locked into a platform at the same time it's trying to get more penetration in western markets, ahem 16, it might have a detrimental effect for the IP overall if that console in question doesn'thave a relatively wide player base.
We are already nearly 1/2 through this gens likely life cycle. We're only 3_5yrs or so away from the ps6 or equivalent. If people have not bitten the bullet by this or next year in getting a 5, it woud
make sence for them to wait till next gen.
If that gen has backward capability it helps SqE; if it doesn't or is too limited that won't do any favors to the ff franchise over all.

Rumors also seem to indicate Nintendo will be dropping a new switch middle of next year. (With the corresponding mass drop of new titles to encourage adoption that usually happens)I could see that impacting potential recovery sales of ps5 Sony and to a lesser extent SqE may have been counting on. Especially if the new switch has backward compatibility. Luckily for both sony and SqE Xbox seems to have given up. Unluckily for them Microsoft seems to be positioning itself in a big way in the cloud space. If they(or Amazon) end up providing a reliable streaming service that would have a huge impact for things like the switch or steam deck. Since the biggest bottle necks they have are hardware related and streaming by passes that. If the service is good enough with a wide enough coverage and reliability consoles as we know them may only have 1 more generation left in them. That could have unfortunate consequences for any studio too deeply tied to them.

Long term an over reliance on exclusivity could, potentially make a studio less relevant outside it's platform. Too early to tell at this point, but there are risks.

On the other hand....

This is also an odd year.....soooooo many triple aaa s dropped as studios cleared the decks from pandemic related issues. And we aren't done yet Starfield at least still has to drop. That could make a product or IP easier to forget or get lossed in the shuffle. Which could potentially impact future adoption or broadening their market.

Time will tell its such an odd year and next year is likely to be relatively dry so I could see it going either way. If you are going to delay a release to PC of a remake, this year is likely the best time to do it. Most players probably have a backlog of things they are playing or want to play in the rpg space atm. Next year or early 25 when things are more normal you have less things competing for attention.

Heck by this time next year even that over priced remaster of rd2 may start looking good.

There are no more PS exclusives anymore.
At best its 1 year PC release delay.
SONY developers found out it is no longer possible to get big buck on PS alone and they are moving to PC.

Downside is many of these ports are bad, tho this one isn't(was at release, but EGS crowd beta tested it for us).

Point is, we'll have to wait, but we'll get it eventually.

This is why I won't buy it until all the parts are released on PC.

Caveat though is "At least until", which if it's anything like the first, it took a few months later until it finally arrived on Steam.

Still this is great news, at least they shortened the wait time, smart move by Square Enix!

Fuuuuuu Take my money SE!

That looks awesome.

As for the May 29 bit, I doubt we'll be seeing it on PC, much less Steam on that date. Would be cool, but, probably not.

Even if news came out it's coming to PC, it's gonna be another EPIC exclusive for a year because greedy Square, and Tim wants you to download his "consumer friendly" spyware
