Steam VS Epic (stability wise) Planning to buy a copy!
Hi all,

In short:
I'm wondering if anyone has any knowledge and verification whether the Steam or Epic Games Store is the more stable version (from the get go)?
I know it's kinda taboo speaking of EGS here, but like i said it's just to know how people reflect on both versions from what they've experienced (if no issues, the better of course).

Thanks in advance :peacedove:

I only have the Steam version. In my experience, it's perfectly stable everywhere except the intro cutscene, where it stutters a tiny bit at the beginning.

I've seen a number of people complain about stuttering in cutscenes, but I'm not sure how common it is.

From the Epic side, its one of only two games I own on Epic (Hitman 3 being the other). Epic is stable enough now days, and it downloads games and installs far faster than Steam to the point of not even being a contest. However, Epic's app takes more time to open and close and the UI for some things isn't the best. Overall, if its strictly for playing a single player game like FF7 Remake I think its fine if you want it there for the cheaper version at times, but otherwise either one works. Steam obviously has the more involved achievement community (I don't even remember if Epic's even has achievements cause I don't care about achievements, personally).

As for in-game stability? I haven't played Steam's version but I have no issues in Epic's. I know Steam community and the in-game Steam overlay has caused issues in various games for some people. I'm not sure if Epic has such issues or not. Personally, I'm leaning towards both games not having issues impacted by the platform in this case unlike, for example, Final Fantasy XV's issue with Steam API.

While Epic's is fine, if I had the choice at the time rather than it being released on Epic first I totally would have gone with Steam.

easy deck support, also Can be played offline, I dunno if EGS fixed it or not (probably fixed, I know KH still requires online though).
both versions on D3D12 are bad DX11 runs flawless on both versions.

Some games can be played offline on EGS, but not all of them yet.
I couldn't play God of War or Darksiders 3 but i could play Horizon Zero Dawn
Steam is still miles ahead when it comes down to offline play, stability and functionality. For example: i can easily move my games between SSDs and HDDs on my PC when using Steam, but doing this on EGS is a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ nightmare. Since FF7 is a huge game, you'll need to download the whole game again if you buy a new SSD with bigger storage size (if you want to move the game to this new SSD). There are workarounds for this issue but it doesn't work for everyone.

I prefer EGS when it comes down to discounts (because they have coupons), payment options (i can buy games there in installments with no interests added) and refunds (because they're automatic and faster than Steam, which is already fast enough)

And i believe FF7 works the same in both platforms nowadays.

Uhmm, how do you pay in installment?

I've read something about stuttering, but it seems to affect some more than others. Most of my games are being played on a RTX 3070ti but i know that isn't always a guarantee.
Thank you for your comment 🙂

Good point! I'll look into that as well, thanks 👍😊

Good to know, since i also like to store my larger games on a external SSD drive whenever i need a break from playing them.
It all seems to be closely matched concerning stability. But as far as moving things around, Steam is regarded as the better one..

Thanks for your lengthy message 🙏
I guess I'll get a Steam copy.
If all goes well (I'll also check about certain mods as mentioned here and there) so I'll likely have little to no major issues coming my way :enderacoffee:

The option to pay in installments is available whenever i choose to pay the game using my credit card. I'm from Brazil, though, so maybe this isn't available in USA or Europe. In Brazil, this kind of payment is very common, so that's why we have it available everywhere on PC (but not consoles), including Steam, EA App, Battlenet, GOG, Epic Games and Green Man Gaming (but with interests added in all of them, except Epic Games).

Yeah, in that case i would advise you to get the Steam version. Way less frustrating when you need to move your games between storage devices. Believe me. And you're welcome.

I'd be surprised if there were any notable differences between the two versions regarding performance now. The Epic version was released months prior, so of course it was bound to have more issues while Steam users got the luxury of receiving a version that had been patched based on the issues reported by Epic "early adopters".

You might be right.
However, it seems that there are still some gamers who're saying that even the patched (latest) version still causes some stutters and whatnot.
That's what i'm also trying to avoid, even though both my rigs are quite good by today's standards.
I'll just have to give it a go..

Thanks for your reply!

I just brought via epic as its coupon has further 25 % off from the discounted price. I dont think there would be different in the stability.

The game sucks as shuttle, probably due to my old GPU. DX11 mode even has screen tearing under vsync.

The 2-year old game and subpar PC port just not justify the ask price so just get it as cheap as possible.

EPIC store just lack language setting per game and you need to set your account language for this game. Steam has better controller support but this game natively support PS4/5 controller anyway,

One thing the next release may also be EPIC exclusive if you want to buy it early and it will always be cheaper price with coupon at the time it come to steam.

Well you just admitted to having an old GPU; that doesn't mean the port is bad.

4K here (on television), all settings high, almost perfect performance, zero crashes so far.
