The difference is, that you can grind your ass off in FF7. This means the chars can have a great range of power, which could lead to a bad experience for the new part.
Or do you want the game to be way too easy? =)
So we all start at the same level, which is level 21.
As explained previously, having to arm wrestle with Jenova's arm is a challenging battle and I'd rather not enter that scenario unprepared.
From my perspective, it's just one game split into 3 parts (maybe?)
Also, I'm not a fan of grinding, so having to get levels+gear knowing they won't be carried over into part 2, I'd just skip over the grind.
And I'm still on extended hiatus from the original game because the grind to get Aerith level 3 special power was too time consuming.
Rebirth is the party's journey from Kalm to the Forgotten Capital and ends after the you know what scene.
Part 3, called who knows what, is most likely going to start in Icicle Inn as the party prepares for their trek north through the Great Glacier to pursue you know who.
If we're talking structure, remake is a fairly linear game while Rebirth is a big old open zone type game with a bunch of open world type crap to get bored with.
All that does honestly is NOT make me wanna play the game. I don't understand why companies like Sony believe that people would buy THEIR console JUST to play a single game in a timed exclusive. This type of behaviour is utterly disgusting.
Also, I heard that nothing will be carried over from the Intergrade. Assuming that is the case, that's completely stupid and makes no sense.
It makes sense for Sony to want to do this, to be the only place for certain content. SE? That gets a little more complicated.
As for carry over data, it makes sense from a balancing standpoint. Each game is, gameplay-wise, a fresh start. This leaves each game to be played on its own terms with its own balance. Some series do carry over everything (it can be done), others drop it all. It comes down to a design choice and, usually, from a gameplay perspective, it usually is the more elegant option to start fresh. Particularly if there are significant changes.
I disagree, because all you're doing is frustrating people. Every time Sony has paid a crap load of money JUST for that OR to get an exclusive character, costume etc. on their platform, this ONLY makes me hate Sony and the Playstation. Besides, 99% of people won't buy a new console brand just for a skin, character, costume etc. but also because they can't afford to anyhow. And in the future, I will continue buying future Xbox iterations. I stopped buying Playstation consoles after the 3rd iteration, because their practices when it came to the PS4 were complete BS.
Sony doesn't care about consumers, all they care about is continuing to punish Nintendo for their failed venture together, as well as trying to bury Xbox. Except that... Both Nintendo and Microsoft have an almost limitless amount of resources, while Microsoft also has a major advantage with the fact that they can natively combine the Xbox with Windows when it comes to gaming. In some way, they already do, as I can stream my Xbox Series S on my computer.
Have you played the original FF VII game on the PS1 or PC? It was a single game on 4 discs. They didn't resort to this BS. Also, would you claim that each disc was its own game? Nope. Just as much as you can't claim that the current/future 3 releases are their own game. They are not, as they are merely divided up in 3 entries of the SAME game. And this, simply because some people would have complained at how "big" the game would have been had it been released as a single entry.
Let's assume that I am wrong for a moment, then Final Fantasy VII Intergrade is an incomplete game in comparison to the original one. So, why bother even create it?
Some people misplace their anger, sure. But that doesn't change the fact that if you want this, this is the only place for it. And if you aren't going to buy Sony stuff for this reason...were you ever going to? If not, then, Sony loses nothing by your (still) not buying their products/licensed products.
If this makes you hate SE and you won't buy a game you otherwise would have (on a different platform), well, that could hurt SE in a way that Sony is coming out all the same.
Saying "they don't care about the consumers" is pretty much a dead end. You don't really know first of all. But, for argument's sake, say that is the case, "why should we care?" If this is just transactional -they have something I want, neither of us gives a ♥♥♥♥ about the other beyond exchanging what we have for what the other has...so what?
Incidentally, do you get pissed off at Microsoft or Nintendo for exclusivity?
I played og VII on PS1. I had a friend with the Windows 95 version at the time. This "BS" is that they made a greatly expanded remake/sequel that is much, much larger in scope than OG. Being like, "Remake is 'just diac 1!" really is reductive.
Not much of an assumption, but, okay. Why am I assuming it is an incomplete game? But in answering your question, because it is fun. Because it tells an interesting story.
For starters, I decided to buy an Xbox One years ago (now I have an Xbox Series S). I did so because I was tired of Sony's anti-consumerism. If you're unwilling to see that as it is, well... *shrugs*. And yes, I know that Sony is anti-consumer, as much as Steam is. Do I use Steam? Only for games I had bought 5+ years ago. Otherwise, I use Epic as my main platofrm, and EA and Ubisoft for their exclusive games.
As for MS, no. Why? Because if they want to create THEIR own games, I'm ok with that. As for them buying studios? Well, they still release those games on other platforms. As for Nintendo, the games you call exclusive have been exclusive to their platform for like 4 decades or so. Which no, I can't be mad at that, as that is literally their brand identity ever since they created the Nintendo. That said, as for games like Splatoon? Well, that's just NOT the type of game you'd expect to play on an Xbox or PS.
Am I mad at Nintendo though? Absolutely! But for an unrelated reason: Which is for their inability to accept that people want to play older games (I personally don't, except when I whip out an actual cartridge, which is rare in and of itself - while other people often use emulators instead), and they seem to genuinely hate their user base who make youtube videos using their games; in fact, some youtubers have even received copyright notices of all ***king things. So yeah, I am mad at Nintendo for being complete a-holes when it comes to their community.
To circle back to the older games, I have looked at the library for the SNES ones for example (on the Switch), and that selection is utter garbage. I understand fully that it's a royalty thing etc. when it comes to games they do not own licenses for. BUT, either do it properly or don't. Simple. If they are unwilling to do so, then their position is not only insulting, but a clear sign that do not care about their older player base like you and I - and for me, that means I'd be LESS likely to buy a Nintendo [insert console name] for future kids of mine. For me, the worst thing is when they can't even tolerate people literally giving Nintendo FREE publicity by playing older games or newer games via Twitch or Youtube. If you can actually tell me HOW this makes any sense, please I beg you to try. The way I see it: If I see you play a game and I think it looks cool or interesting, there are much greater chances I'd be willing to buy a Switch for example, if I see you play one of the Mario games or Zelda games. Makes sense to me. And honestly sometimes I have seen people play X games, and I was like... Ima buy that cuz if looks fun!
Yes!!! If you have played FF VII as you stated, then you know that the Intergrade, Rebirth etc. are part of the EXACT same storyline, plot etc. from the original game. I am NOT making that up, this is factual. So yes! Absolutely, the new "games" are incomplete iterations of the ACTUAL game. Look at it this way: The one called "Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade" means what? It's a REMAKE. Not a remake of a part of a game, but a REMAKE of the entire game. Which is why the others WILL be called "Final Fantasy VII Remake". So yes, absolutely, each are incomplete games, and nothing will change my mind on that subject. Look at this way: My original playthrough for the game called Dragon Age Inquisition was MORE than 200 hours. Not kidding. And you're telling me that a 50 or so hour "game" couldn't have been say a 150 hour game instead? Come on. At this point, the one dubbed "Final Fantasy VII Remake: Intergrade" is at that point not a remake if you insist on calling it a game, but a standalone game which has nothing to do with the original FF VII.
While I didn't have the physical disc version of the original game, the digital version just goes from one chapter to the next seamlessly.
Hence my consternation that they're treating the middle segment of the game as a seperate game instead of just loading a savegame from the first segment to keep playing.
I used to buy Playstation consoles every time my favorite PSgame got updated for a new hardware version, then the game series was cancelled mid-production by the license holder and therefore, I don't need any more Playstations.
I know why I am disappointed with Nintendo, Splatoon 3.
A case of history repeats, since I won't be playing the next installment in the series, I don't need a Switch2.
Irony that after venturing into the console game market, all I did was come full circle back to PC/Steam......
You do realize that EGS does the same practice you criticize with timed exclusivity deals, even having done so with this game we are on the forums of, right?
And Microsoft does do the same specifically with games, but also has other anti consumer issues more broadly as well.
You even right here state that you use EGS for their exclusives.
So, yeah, your argument is, at best, hypocritical.
What's the difference between developing their own and paying another entity to make games for their platform to the end consumer, in regards to the console owner?
"Not the tyoe of game expect to play on other consoles?" Why? How does that get around this topic?
You just argued that they can/should have control over IP they developed and that this is their brand identity. Then complain that they shouldn't do with that what they will.
Noting that Nintendo is doing this to protect their IP. Goodwill (or lack thereof) aside, this is directly because of this thing you both agree and disagree they can/should do.
So, you "understand why it is garbage" but don't understand why it is garbage. Cool.
Not buying one is your choice, but not really touching on the overarching issue here.
Not that I have a dog in the fight either way on this point, there is a contingent of people that just watch video games and don't play/buy them. Watching the Twitch stream facilitates consuming without needing to buy. This is a thing. Now, quantifying how much of that group vs people that see it streamed and will then buy it as a result, I don't know where they land, and would be interested to know that actual figure. Unfortunately, I suspect data on that is scarce.
Counterpoint, if you think Remake/Rebirth is the "EXACT same storyline, plot, etc. from the original game" you don't know these games.
I maintain that Remake is actually a sequel, with "Remake" meaning/also meaning something like, "in universe remaking FFVII's timeline/events."
They are a trilogy. Each game is a complete game, which is part of an overarching narrative. Kinda like Xenosaga was three distinct games, with one ongoing story.
I haven't played Dragon Age, but I doubt it was both a substantially larger game and to the level of detail of VII Remake's Midgar. Much less Rebirth's entire setting (which my initial playthrough clocked in around 150 hours) in addition to Remake's.
Not really understanding your last sentence, as it is both a game and related to OG FFVII.
Having FFVII Remake on only Playstation is merely an additional major title to that list of interest. Plus, many players like to play a game during its period of hype when it first releases (this is actually a massive driving force behind whether a game, movie, tv series, etc. succeed... and why launch stats are the most important).
Fortunately, Square Enix is no longer doing this because, while it helps Sony, it has hurt Square Enix total sales potential too much with their last few major games.
For carrying over progress this is pretty normal in episodic games. Most games that have sequels almost never carry progress. Games that are, truly, episodic in nature with a more connected chapter like story rather than just a sequel also don't do this typically such as Xenosaga, Trails of series (Trails in the Sky, etc.), and so on.
Instead, they may have bonuses for importing a save (period, or for completing certain achievements like 100% Bracer mission completion in Trails in the Sky). These might include a minor bonus equipment of some nature or cosmetics, etc.
Rather, the only game I'm aware of, at all, that carries over progress truly, as if it is one massive super sized game, is the .//hack franchise which directly carries over all stats through all 4 episodes (but it does reset relationships, refresh your desktop / mail box, etc.).
This is useful for a few reasons:
- It lets developers have better tighter balance design in later episodes rather than characters coming in loaded with already advanced setups. It also prevents having an utterly ridiculous disparity in player setups such as someone who beat NG+ hard mode FF7 Remake is more than 5x more powerful than someone who just freshly beat NG despite doing 100% of NG content... Not to mention those who skipped optional content / exploration and finished NG would be huge disparity even in NG completion.
Example: A party coming in to Rebirth having finished Remake at level 27 with like 2-3k HP, stats in the 100-200 range, tier 1 limit breaks, and only 1 or zero copies of powerful materia like Elemental, like levle 3 or 4 weapon mastery, etc... compared to a NG+ Hard mode player level 50 with 9,999 HP on everyone, stast in the 400-500+ range, duplicates of multiple power materia, level 7 weapon mastery, and tier 2 super powerful limit breaks (that they can use 1x free at the start of every battle and very frequently due to insane recharge speed from the 3x gotterdammerung super op accessory...). Huge difference.
- It lets them control power scaling / power creep to avoid it getting out of control and maintain refined combat.
- It lets them introduce / alter mechanics, materia, new equipment, etc. It would be weird if they rebalanced materia or did a major mechanic change and suddenly a third of your stuff functioned differently or was wildly rebalanced. It would also be a terrible idea to leave something in a totally busted / imbalanced state that was clearly an issue from the prior games, like Aerith's absurd basic attack damage and just how OP her magic was (not that they exactly nerfed it anywhere near enough). They adjusted her general power level in different ways to make other characters fit in because she simply crowded out everyone (it was bad... like if other characters are S tier good she is SSSSS tier good in Remake episode 1). It lets them make other characters more interested and better design them to improve over the original, introduce new materia, the new coop skill mechanics seen in the Remake's DLC between Yuffie & Sonon, but for the entire party in Rebirth, etc.
Ill stick with waiting for the "Trilogy" to complete before i jump in.
because i dont like not being able to finish the whole story and strangely it seems plausible part 2 wont even release on this platform for now.
