He played the Original FF7 for 153 hours.
You're telling me that a remake that's only played 15% of the original so far is better told?yeah sure. FF7 Original is one of the best Videogames of all time.
The Remake doesn't even come close to its direct japanese competitors of recent times
Persona 5 , Xenoblade Chronicles 1-3 , Dragon Quest XI , NieR: Automata ,
...list goes on.
Most of the people here in this thread have never played the original and only judge by the graphics.
Complete Wrong about the budget
Final Fantasy VII was at the time the most expensive video game ever produced, with a development budget estimated between $40,000,000 (equivalent to $68,000,000 in 2021) and $45,000,000 (equivalent to $76,000,000 in 2021).
Final Fantasy VII Remake's budget was up to $140 million according to Atul Goyal, a managing director at investment bank Jefferies & Company. (estimate)
Is FF7 Remake better than the original? Not sure, it isn't finished.
Is FF7 Remake portion of Midgar better than the original of the same section, Midgar? In my opinion, significantly better though I quite like both.
Is FF7 Remake comparable to modern games like the ones you mentioned? Imo, I enjoyed it better, even compared to Xenoblade games, granted it nor anythign else really has the sheer bulk of content Xenoblade games have. I enjoy it far better than Persona 5, and imo DQXI is not very good... usually only children will like it or die-hard fans who grew up liking it, and I have admittedly yet to play NieR though I need to.
The original FF7 is my current favorite game, though if episode 2 & 3 of the Remake continue to be good then it may end up replacing the original as my favorite if episode 1 is any indication.
I'm not certain why you copy and pasted that quote about the price but chose to remove the critical context in that quote "at the time"... but the actual quote is as follows from wiki:
If we account for inflation even still it is no longer the most expensive. That would be Star Citizen. FFVII (original) would, quite ironically, be 7th most expensive as of 2021 inflation - Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_most_expensive_video_games_to_develop
Assuming the above list is even accurate... FFVII Remake will be composed of three games, though, for the full product so the combined project will likely exceed it especially as its suspected the next two episodes are likely to each be much larger than episode 1 due to remaining story that needs to be covered, promise of not cutting content locations, and open world aspects vs the more linear episode 1.
Budget doesn't mean everything though and I would have skipped the issue but since it might come up again in the thread or others it ought as well stand corrected in full context. I don't think more really needs to be said about the matter of budget, though. As for scale of the remake, it does exceed the original and the original was already considerable scale to begin with so it is quite the beast of a project. It will be interesting to see how much openeness they adopt for episode 2 & 3.
Play whatever you enjoy lol
If you want to get some nostalgic feeling, go play the OG. And stop creating moronic threads.
Square Enix is far from be perfect, but atleast they listened the fans and remade it. Cry more.
Is the remake gradually being made to be a complete game through DLCs, or is it going to be a series of remakes?
Better graphics. Better controls. They can even make changes that everyone will like.
Look at the Resident Evil 1 remake as an example of what people want when they ask for remakes. It's the same game, just modernised, and with things that were intended to be in the original game but cut out for time added back in (Lisa Trevor mainly).
