windshield wipers pointless?

I feel like the wipers don't play as large a role as they should while driving through storms. To my knowledge, still being fairly early in the game, you can drive through any level of rain severity without being visually hindered while the wipers are off.
curious if anybody else feels this way.. or if this is even the right place to post this thought. Hoping the devs see this, I'm loving the ♥♥♥♥ out of this game so far!

You are 100% right in what you are saying however you will discover that the wipers are indispensable in some occurrences.

Ah yes....i thought the same as the young breacher here....then i found out EXACTLY why wipers are a thing. Wait till he meets his first really really special type of weather pattern.

with ultra effects rain actually covers your windshield. plus it has other uses regarding the locations you can visit

If you have the effects setting lowered then, yes, the wipers are completely pointless because of rain. That combined with how demanding the shadows are is why I haven't bought the game yet. Having to lower all the settings that are crucial to the vibe of the game to hit 60fps just didn't work for me.

I have one and can't say "rain actually covers ♥♥♥♥". It's a very subtle effect, you barely even notice it. You could try to turn on ultra settings just to take a look, it's not some real-time ray-tracing magic.
