do you have to pick up the item bags on the battlefield?
Do you automatically get them if you win or do you have to pick them up?

Automatic

Warren report claims you don't have to loot them if I recall; however, enemy can steal the bags if you leave them around, but they are looted automatically at end if any left behind.

if you kill the guy that took it he drops it all

I thought the enemy couldn't steal it from you anymore? It shows what items the bag contained when they pick it up.

I've been watching this and even if the enemy takes them you still get the drops, I've confirmed it myself a few times with items I didn't have before the fight, and I know I saw the enemy take

Bags that haven't been picked up will be collected after you win a battle, but if an enemy collects a bag they'll keep the goods if they survive the battle (i.e. you kill the leader but not that enemy). If you kill an enemy that picked up a bag, they'll drop a bag with the previous items as well as whatever they'll also drop, making a kind of . . . double bag I guess?

What I'm not sure of is what happens when an enemy picks up a bag and then you recruit them onto your team. Do you get the bag's items then? I'm not sure.

Well, if he has all that stuff on him when you kill him and you still get it, then it should all be on him when you recruit. I don't know if that's how it actually works, though.

Pretty sure I've seen a triple bag. Collected it and it basically just filled the whole screen with contents the guy had been picking up.

Lol, yeah, that happened to me too. It's actually kind of funny.

My only issue with this system, though it is more forgiving on enemies stealing the loot drops is that because enemies that pick up bags generate double or triple (or potentially I guess up to an 8x bag since the normal enemy allotment is 10 units with 1 leader) bags, I'm sure this guarantees they won't drop stat upgrade tarot cards, since they have to ensure a bag drop one they pick up a bag.

This probably explains why I've run into so few stat card drops so far in my run actually.

Yeah, in theory that's what should happen.

But I haven't tested it out yet to make sure that it's what happens either. I'm kind of interested now though to see if I can get it to happen to see if they were smart and covered this rarer case properly.

I found even in the PSP version there were very few stat increasing cards in the early part of the game.

I'm mid chapter 3, and they are starting to come up more frequently now.

That might be true, but I haven't had many bags stolen on me, but I haven't seen many cards either. I'm pretty sure cards are fairly rare in this version. I do like how they drop ALL their loot in this one instead of one item that was most likely going to be the heal leaf.
