Any tips to beat Vyce 1v1 Chaos Route?
Hi all,

Tactics Ogre is such a great throwback. Having trouble with one of the battles in chapter 2 Almorica Passageway Chaos Route specifically against Vyce. Do ya have any tips like which classes to use etc?

Vyce is going to outturn you, so you'll basically be tanking hits and taking advantage of the fact that you can heal and he can't, so bring some healing items along as well just in case. Go into melee right away to get a hit or two in before he can use his finisher, keep in mind his finisher can be used at range, and don't be afraid to move away from him to get some healing in, you actually move a bit faster than him even as a knight so you can avoid a turn of damage.

I just got through this fight as a Ninja. Abusing my extra mobility to keep distance around Vyce and pick up cards. Make sure you're level 19, and craft up some healing items and take them with. 4 mending salves or seeds will allow you to tank a couple hits from his Weapon Art. This may even be easier on a heavier character that can resist his damage with a shield, such as a mace & shield knight. You only need to get him to critical, and as a Ninja especially you can play keep away until you get enough mana to weapon art him.

Other ideas: Buff items that give fortify or haste, using a bow on Ninja to let you pop Dark Weight from a distance safely repeatedly

I just did this fight a few hours ago as a Terror Knight. I think Knight would be the easiest, since it's tankier, can randomly gain Phalanx at the start of every turn, and I think it's slightly faster than Terror Knight iirc. Regardless of what class you play, you pretty much have to kite Vyce around, picking up buff cards when you can.

The main point of concern IMO would be your level and your weapon skill, since obviously some weapon restrictions apply between Knight and Terror Knight (I stayed TK because my Denam is using 2H swords and Knights can't use them). Obviously it's pretty hard to be underleveled in this version of the game, but it could help to check if you're just shy of your current level cap, and dump some EXP charms into Denam if so.

Basically run away from him until you have enough MP to hit Vyce with a finishing move. He should go down in a few hits if you repeat that. That's more or less the general strategy for the fight. It helps to equip some beefy healing items if you have them handy, and it makes it easier to kite him around like this if you've been upgrading your gear via crafting, since you can get an additional +1 move and +1 jump from crafted gloves and pants, but it should still be possible without that.

Don't forget to swap your skills around, too. I forgot to remove things like Pincer Attack the first few times I tried the fight. HP+, Phalanx (if you're a knight), Rampart Aura are all great. If you get creative with positioning, Rampart can really let you keep Vyce at bay while you circle the statues in the room, or climb the stairs.

If you have Terror Knight available, they have the ability to cast debuff magic, as well as having an auto skill which can inflict Terror into enemies who are too close to them.

Additionally, they can cast HP / MP Drain to help replenish their own supply. I wouldn't recommend using MP Drain as it doesn't deal nearly enough to be worth the effort. But HP Drain can help save you when you don't have a healer nearby.

Dang ya y'all called it. Dancing around the statues as the knight class helped a lot. I also equipped Denam a 2 handed hammer since it allows counterattacks to deal with Vyce's 2x normal attacks. I also used +2 healing items and equipped Denam with Healing 1 and Healing 2 spells. Thank you all for your strategic tactics!! :)

If you are referring to the first fight with him, and Arycelle as guest?

Make sure one of your healers have Boon of Swiftness spell.

During battle setup, move healers to the front line.

Cast Boon of Swiftness on Arycelle and Denam.

Try to move all your chars closer to Vyce. Eventually he will come close to you, but he will have his finisher ready.

Focus all finishing moves on him. Make sure your chars have Blessing Stones and HP pods allowing them to revive/heal others.

Nah the 2nd battle against Vyce. It was the one where you're fighting 1v1 and he gets to attack Denam twice. My Denam has been a warrior the whole time, but if you switch classes to a knight in order to have healing and being able to take hits and using the best armor/equipment - it works really well. I had to switch Denam's weapon to a 2h hammer because he can counterattack whenever Vyce uses his normal attacks. Next I picked up some crit and physical attack card which helped quite a bit. It was really a cat and mouse chase which Vyce chased Denam around the statues. Also I brought some +2 healing leaves just in case!

If I were to do it all over again, I would honestly have had Denam trained his bow skills then tackled the Vyce 1v1 fight.

This fight was such a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥... I just tank him thru with Terror Knight and got lucky, coz he moved away from me in one of hist 2 moves. But on a second he got physical DMG buff right next to me, so I was ♥♥♥♥♥♥...

4 mending leaves and spamming the finisher and after 5 tries the fight was over... But what a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ joke this was... Vistory felt like being ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ on and being told you are good... to take the ♥♥♥♥ with you...

I did this as a terro knight with a Baldur Hammer +1 pretty easily? Make sure your back is to a statue, and use the first turn to weaken Vyce. It's not terribly difficult so long as you didn't build Denam as a wizard.

Especially since Ice finisher = bonus damage on Wind Vyce. ;)

I did first try with rune fencer Denam.
Status effect items are so spammable in this game compared to the psp version. Go nuts with weaken, breach, fortify, strengthen, poison, stun. Pretty sure any of these work to make the fight easier, and only 2 should be able to drastically change the fight.

Wait'll you get to the other bad boy of Almorica. There's a reason he asks to 1v1 you.

I did it first try with rune fencer Denam, too. Exact same strat. Buff with Fortify item, inflict Weaken. 2 50% healing items and pokey poke with a spear. Fortify and Weaken combo pretty much completely negate his phys cards, which only leaves his MP ones. Since you gain mana when taking damage, and are using items rather than MP to heal, you can use a finisher every time he uses one on you.

Really annoyed because my Denen is a wizard and there's no way to win like this. He one shots me on turn 3. And I don't have the right weapon skill for anything melee :/

Do you have any shot items? Could shift to beast tamer, equip your highest weapon skills and just lob shots at him until he gives up.
