Cannot name main character?
This really bothers me more than anything right now. May just wait for a mod that will allow this, or figure out how to do it myself.

Apparently once you beat the game, it unlocks the ability to change Denam's name. Not sure if that is confirmed.

I'm going to do neutral first, just to unlock the characters. Use it as a building base, not sure how much of your resources carries through when chariot travelling at that point.

Denam has a canon name and with Voice Acting they had to give him that as people say his name in dialogue.

Wait til you find out he has a canon love interest too.

That's just a false rumor, you really shouldn't spread them.

I played Let Us Cling Together so I'm familiar with most of the plot lines. But this inability to name myself is really ruining the experience for me.

You'd think they could just put a disclaimer that voice lines involving your name would be disabled if you choose a custom name.. I would be fine with that.

Isn't this being praised as a decently written war drama with actual characters? What gave you an impression that it's a self-insert game?

Probably the fact that I can customize the names of my recruits, and that naming the main character was a feature in an older version of this game that was removed. In this regard, it is a downgrade from Let Us Cling Together.

Everyone understood he had a canon name. I just prefer seeing my own name, because it's better.

Yikes, megalomaniac much? Do you go to the movies and get upset you aren't in the story too? I've heard some silly things but this stuff takes the cake.

If that's true, then it lends further credibility to the possibility that we'll be getting multiplayer features in the future.

You can't change his name, because the game is fully voice acted all the way through. Meaning the characters are scripted to address him as Denam.

I disagree with the OP.
There's no immersion-breaking here here since Denam is not a self-insert.

Objectively speaking, the ability to name the main character is a feature that was removed. It is a downgrade.

I'm not an active part of a movie, but I am an active part of a game that I'm playing. I, the player, am making the decisions which shape the story. It's a shame that so many of you are defending this limitation because of the voice acting. While the voice acting is a neat addition, it would not have taken much effort to mute the segments where Denam's name is mentioned, and insert the player's custom name.

For $50, I think we deserve that much. Love the game, but I hate to see features being taken away from us.

I'm in agreement that being stuck with a name that sounds like 'Denim' is terrible.
Its honestly the only complaint I have on this edition so far. It kills a bit of immersion.

I understand they removed it due to voice acting. But it would not have been hard to adjust the dialogue so it didn't need to be changed.

It could have been worse. I could have been stuck with 'Vice' as a name.

What's ♥♥♥♥♥♥ is if you play with English text + Japanese voices, you stuck with the name Denam while the voices say his name as Denim.

I know denim is a type of clothes, but who cares? I want my Denim back!

I don't usually name the protagonist as myself anyway, in games that have pre-written characters. I do self-insert for a recruited soldier though, both in TO and FFT.

Just make a normal unit with your name on it.

It's a simple solution to the problem you're pretending to have.
Ovrlord Etna Nov 14, 2022 @ 11:01pm
With the voice overs I can understand why you can't rename Denam. But I understand your loss. Better than a voiceless game imo. Or being called "hero" "chosen one" "commander"

I honestly always just make self-insert generic units for myself and close friends/family. That way, it is as though I am still a part of the journey but as the hidden silent protag strategist that helped guide the battles.
