Palace of the Dead is so boring...
...and yet I'm doing it for the third time (and probably a fourth time in CODA). Dang, they really didn't make it any more interesting than the PSP version.

Other than avoiding dead ends, is there anything else that can be done to speed up the process?

Speed boost multiplier with 3rd party programs, run the game at triple speed. The multipliers almost directly correlate with a similar multiplier to clear speeds. Most of the time spent in battles is watching units move, and animations, and boxes, etc. Also, figure out which units can function fine on AI control, and figure out which ones absolutely demand you manually control them, to limit the amount of actions you take in a given battle.

Also, I got 2 pairs of sidhe boots (the teleport boots) from one of those side areas, so they have good loot. Once you get teleport or fly boots/rings on your characters, things go a lot smoother.

Thanks for the fact my characters are around 8 levels higher than the enemies until reaching floor 7-8, I've just set the fight to auto battle and actually fell asleep waiting for the AI to wrap things up.

I'm just going to second this advice. Using CheatEngine to increase the speed was a game changer, literally.

The AI on units is sorta broken if they run into undead enemies, I noticed that my characters will keep hitting undead mobs after they've dropped and ignore attacking targets that are still standing. It's extremely problematic for functional AI in POTD.

If there's any undead, you more or less have to disable the AI entirely. I've even seen AI attack downed undead with a cudgel even though they had exorcism slotted, and the MP to use it...

Catiua/Princess gets a holy water ability that's a skill not an attack, so it doesn't use your turn, and it helps tremendously with clearing undead in POTD.

My clerics keep wasting healing magic on the undead, instead of using it to keep my units in fighting condition. When I actually do knock them out, they'll cast Exorcism to finish it off. But wasting heals against the undead when my other units can deal far more damage is annoying.

I've been thinking about bringing some undead myself, just to see if the enemy AI will derp out and waste turns hitting my downed phantoms. I've also noticed a total lack of exorcism skills on enemy clerics, so it might be a really safe strategy if it works.

If they have BANISH then they don't need exorcism. It instantly destroys any undead (save for Lich and Divine Knight) without having to down them.

And yes, it is a one shot kill; which is why trying to create an entire army of undead units is a terrible idea.

We shouldn't have to get a cheat engine for the game to work properly. I don't remember AI having a problem with undead on psp/vita. I'm enjoying this (on switch) but it's just making me want to play my vita version when I'm done.

yeah it's called don't use the cheat engine table, cause i know what you're using. you're setting enemy HP to 1. the AI handles undead fine, they even use the exorcism consumable where and when they can

Unfortunately animation are locked to audio, so you can't boost it even harder =/

I can confirm this. I have never seen my units continue to attack downed undead while set to auto AI. They either move on to a new target, or try to exorcise them. So if their units are attacking people who are already down, it's because he's screwing with their programming.

Been fighting undead in the Wood, can confirm no issue with AI hitting downed undead.
In fact, they time it correctly that when downed undead hits 1 that they cast exorcist, while they prioritize healing before that.
