does slower day speed make the game too easy?
I'm wrestling between playing on the default 20 mins or extending it to 30 mins. I like having more time to do stuff, but if I end up with a super farm or what not by the end of year 1, then I'll probably just end up losing interest. For anyone that slowed down the day, did you find yourself progressing way too fast?

Thanks!

The thing is in the story you eventually end up with 3 farms. Each farm with its own currency. So if you want to try to actually use all 3 farms instead of abandoning 1 or 2 of them, you'd need to have a longer day.

For me, having the game speed set to 40 minutes per day gave me time to think. Sure there were things I had to plan my day around, but that breathing time is invaluable. And if you're bored the fish are always there.

imo with no chest pausing (and other screens like craft menus not pausing) the 40 minute days just help with that.

Otherwise Id do 30 mins

Too easy? No. Easier? Yes

Don't really feel like it's difficulty that it affects, the game isn't difficult to start with. But does it give you more time to progress things in a day? Of course.
So far, and I've been playing with 40 minute days from the start, I almost feel like it should be the standard given the amount of things to do. And that's not entirely taking into account yet that you end up with 3 farms. Purely how long it takes to level things, progress in mines, gather stuff around the place etc..
But it's a welcome change in approach to this type of game.
What would make it even more perfect in that regard is not having a passing out time around midnight, but instead;
- sleeping before midnight = waking up with full energy or bonus energy as a "reward"
- sleeping after midnight = waking up with less energy
- not sleeping = of course, gotta eat.
I say energy but in this case it would be Health/Mana of course. But still, that'd be the perfect approach to that aspect imo.

I had it set to 40 minutes for most of the first year. I wouldn't say it affects difficulty so much as it affects enjoyment. Having shorter days just feels frustrating rather than hard, because the only difference is that I'm forced to push priorities back by a day. There's a HUGE amount you can do at the start, and not enough to fill a 40 minute day later, so the option feels like it's there more to keep you sane than serve as a difficulty slider.

I find it more pleasant, not really easier. I started on 30 minutes, went to the next place and got a second farm and said.. nope. 40 minutes and I'm spending my first year on my first farm. It's actually overwhelming on 30 min especially with no chest pause option. I do have dialog pause on.

I'm in spring year 2 now and have left it on 20 minutes from the start. Having played a year like that i could see an argument for turning it up to 30+ minutes for your first spring and maybe up to mid summer, there is a lot to do early on and farming manually with the rusty tools is slow.
Once you get the farming spells though, the rain cloud being the real game changer, i honestly don't know what you'd need all that time for. On 20 minute days i'm done with all my farm work by 10:30am across all 3 farms, if it's just watering then earlier still, only the busiest of planting days will it go later than that. That leaves loads of time for crafting, visiting, fishing, mines or whatever.
I feel if you kept it on 30 or 40, 40 seems ludicrously slow to me, then you'd burn through everything too fast and the pacing would be off. I caught all the seasonal fish every season, harvested every crop, have all sun haven romance-ables at 10 hearts or more, fully finished the second farm storyline and am on the 3rd, all on 20 minutes days by the end of year 1. Having it turned up to 30+ all year just seems like i'd be even further along to a silly degree, having 50% more time every day just seems like i'd be spinning my wheel waiting for the seasons to end so i could do new stuff, at 20 minutes i'm 'all finished' with a season with 4-5 days to spare anyway.

TLDR: For spring of year 1 i can see 30 being balanced, but once you have the farming spells it seems excessively long and i personally can't see what you do with the extra time other than make it even easier. If your concern is finishing everything too fast I'd definitely leave it on 20, I always have and it feels fine.
