I've purchased moonstones when family gives me steam gift cards as gifts and I turn them in for moonstones.
I think most savvy players know how to collect free moonstones and save for content they wish to have.
These are the ways I collect free moonstones:
Collect the blue Daily Moonstone Chest which spawns somewhere in the Valley and contains Moonstone 50. Honestly, I don't collect them daily; if I miss a day they will still spawn so some days i'll have 3 blue chests pending.
Voting on DreamSnaps (max Moonstone 50 per week) The way it works is players submit their weekly photo in game that meet challenge requirement and then the same players vote in game. It's really cool seeing what players come up with every week and being able to vote in game.
Rewards for DreamSnaps submission rank (for example last week I earned 4000 moonstones by submitting a photo I took in game, (inside the game an not via a 3rd party social media account, meaning unlike most games requiring children to create social media accounts to participate in game events, this game/event is built into the game, which is extremely responsible and impressive in my opinion.) Anyways, It was the Moana photo challenge. My friend usually earns 4000 per week because she puts so much effort into every detail of her work.
The weekly rewards for players who participate in the weekly Dreamsnap challenges are delivered to our homes' mailbox every Wednesday. Here's example of what I received in the my mailbox last week:

Although a handful of props including clothing and furnishings may be purchased via the premium shop, most of vast offerings of content can be collected by completing the characters friendship quests, as well as, purchasing in Scrooge's shop that refreshes daily using star coins earned by farming and/or collecting resources and selling at one of Goofy's Stalls.
It only takes a little participation, practice, and effort to earn moonstones weekly via dreamsnap photo challenges. I usually earn 300-900 mooonstones but last week I earned 4000 moonstones for the first time: highest before was 2500. Players are able to earn a decent amount of moonstones free weekly and the best part, this keeps the players engaged with their community through creating art. Sounds generous and creative to me.
Rank Percentile Reward
Baseline Moonstone 300
Top 70% Moonstone 600
Top 55% Moonstone 900
Top 40% Moonstone 1,200
Top 20% Moonstone 1,500

Top 7.5% Moonstone 4,000

Last time the Hercules premium bundle was offered I could not get because my moonstones were low, but I knew the content would be recirculated so I save my weekly dreamsnap rewards and participate in dreamsnap voting (anyone can do for 50 moonstones) & I find the daily blue chests that give 50 moonstones.
If I had children and they played disney dreamlight valley and they wanted moonstones for new content, I'd buy them as many as they wanted. I prefer to save. I like having things to look forward to.
With everything in the technical world right now focusing on outrage and negativity maybe try to not consume and project it as much, as difficult as it is not to do. I try but I have my days. You seem like a nice person who's concerned for players; I can see that and I appreciate your energy. In my opinion Gameloft is doing fantastic when it comes to keeping content fresh and exciting, as well as, keeping currency/economy balanced. Over all I give Gameloft A+ Rating. I don't see Gameloft taking advantage of anyone including children, otherwise I would speak up. Not sure if you were aware of the progress Gameloft has made making players aware that content will recirculate or the benefits of participating in events/ways to earn free moonstones. I hope this has better informed you.
I went on youtube and searched disney dreamlight valley dreamsnaps and a player in the community was nice enough to create this video explaining how it works: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EuYxKsBWxWA
Here's the wiki for how to unlock Vanellope to get started with submitting weekly Dreamsnap photos to earn free Moonstones: https://dreamlightvalleywiki.com/Vanellope
As far as being a waste of time and Moonstones gathering dust sitting in accounts, I don't see that happening, players use their Moonstones as they wish; if they wish to save them as I do I see nothing wrong with that. This game is based on creating and managing our own worlds that does not involve destroying other players. This game is involved in inspiring and relating with players. Through character interaction helped me realize that we have our good days and not so good days and that's okay; and to lend support where we can. Last night Donald Duck was upset because he was fishing and Goofy accidentally tripped and knocked over his bucket of bait and scared away all the fish. after our conversation I gave Donald a fish I had in my inventory and he went back to fishing and Goofy showed me a different fishing spot I would have never imagined fishing from. Even though that did not count for any type of point system I thought it would cheer him up.
In conclusion I leave you with this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NnuV5qoJ2GQ and this video to me represents the majority of current gaming industry and the enchanted candle represents Gameloft and Disney Dreamlight Valley: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DUGtyj5QlEM
It is possible to spend money in the game, but you have to WANT to spend money and not play. Between the blue chest and dream snaps, there is no reason to buy moonstones unless you are just lazy and want everything without doing any work at all.
I would tend to call them "work ethic busting micro transactions" or "privileged silver spoon micro transaction" .....maybe even "dumb as they come micro transactions".
Wonder what happens to those kids when their parents find out they bought SKINS in a game like this, or Fortnight? Probably not a very happy day at the old homestead is it?
Why do they even have them then? For a game with a FULL purchase price at the door?
Disney Dreamlight Valley is not a fit in type game. This game is not like the others, there's nothing else like it. We work in game for our content and we typically would not copy other players styles because there's so many free choices and combinations unlike other games that only involve shooting each other using the latest skin or standing around to make other players feel ugly. That is not this game. If the players are not earning star coins and shopping at Scrooges and only purchasing sparse premium clothing options to fit in with their friends who do the same using their parents banking information um the parents have bigger problems to worry about than this game. They would need to evolve as humans and revisit this game after they have gained real world perspective and matured a bit more.
In the short time they have been around they set the bar so high, as far as, quality content, tasks, 3D object placement, performance; makes other platforms look noob.
I"m literally so happy Gameloft created Disney Dreamlight Valley because it gives future generations of gamers a solid foundation of building and creativity vs the result of what has happened to this player using other games. If this player only started out with this game their perspective towards other games would be totally different. Without the other games we would not have the experience to build this game, I thank the other games for showing us the way.
They have to make money somehow, if you skip to 55 minutes to the games credit and look at the amount of staffing required to create, maintain, & evolve this level of quality then maybe you would understand. Plus having the game free to play would only open the door wide up to strangers trolling children, hacking, & who knows what else. And likely the game would not be so generous with rewarding players with Moonstones. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bACNnYjx8fc
Here's your homework to gain perspective. Go to blender.org and build your own world, learn to script, texture, & animate. Check back with me in about 8 years and i'll tell you what you did wrong.
Sounds like mommy and daddy need to learn to parent.
And as I said in your other thread. . . this game doesn't have anything like this, so not sure why you even brought it up. Unless this is just your generic "I post this on every MTX game I don't like" essay.
Also, it should be a posting restriction that if the poster does not own the game, they are blocked from posting in the Steam community forum dedicated to that game.
I know all about predatory microtransactions and this game has none of them.
There are no lockboxes, no pay2win, only direct purchases of cosmetics.
This game is not like Fortnite, which only gives you 6 hours to decide if you want the cosmetic, to encourage the FOMO factor.
As for Steam, a smart parent knows there is a way to block spending on the game.
There is an authorization protocol in Steam that requires a parent chosen code to complete purchases, so having the credit card number/info is not enough with this restriction enabled.
Nintendo Switch has a similar protocol, in addition to requiring entering the account password to access the Switch store.
@PMPGPD:
I have a reasonable level of experience in 3D modeling and even I can't understand Blender.
So a less experienced individual would have no comprehension of how to build a game from nothing.
Moving around in a raw 3 dimensional space is not easy, kids catch on quick. One of my nieces was showing me animations she doodled on her ipad, i'm like what they heck, how did you do that! oh it was easy lol. I guess to create something you must have something you wish to create and learn from that creation and then move on to another creation and use the previous knowledge to apply to that and so on and so on, eventually you start adding physics and particles and making things move and then texture uv mapping after the brain feels like it can sustain more pressure dabble with rigging avatars and recording animations. I'm self taught. I thought I wanted to sell creations but mostly gave them away for free. I didn't want to have to deal with trolling. I have a couple hundred mesh window styles sitting on my thumb drive. One day I wanted to create windows, rectangle ones in various sizes and lancet ones the gothic pointy ones. I'm proud of those. Made a few buildings, fountains. I like historic architecture, I guess classic modern worlds fair type old buildings that are currently crumbing due to neglect, a reflection of the current generation. I guess the first lesson would be a square is not 3D it is a 2D object, commonly confused with a cube which is 3D. A circle is not 3D it is 2D, commonly confused with a sphere :D My favorite 3D shape is the torus, that's for if I want to get crazy. Lately I build things and then they are destroyed. I build just to build and after it's built it's no longer of use to me and I like watching the pieces fall before deletion. Can never look at a game the same way after learning it. I like following Gamelofts progress, it's neat the stuff they come up with. like the challenge stuff and getting all the content tagged and area detects what's in it and same with camera. That's going to be our real life futures in the wrong hands. So and so is wearing a red tee shirt and red hat, or a blue tee shirt and a blue hat and tag us. I guess some places already do that. I try not to think about that.
Player one will defiantly need to mature a bit more before learning how to apply the knowledge for personal gain, otherwise, will end up jaded and useless and only doing it as hobby until that desire dies. :D
I'm going to change my hobby to protect the children and their parents from Disney. :D jk player one. Just playing. I'll stop being mean.
I think I was mostly meant to learn 3D to help aliens via my dreams create things I do not understand, but apparently I did a good job, something worked and they were very grateful. True Story.
This is one of my favorite blender videos, blender.org created it, they made a behind the scenes video showing how they did it and the challenges they had to overcome. The video is called Spring: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WhWc3b3KhnY
did you do that too? last event by mistake under rewards directly was a purchase more tickets using moonstones button, for some reason I thought it was the collect reward from event button, it was only the default value of that button but the pop up popped up saying you're about to spend moonstones but I guess I did not pay attention to it and proceeded and was like darn it, meant to click the collect reward button, I believe on the right side of event. I don't think they link moonstones to auto purchase when no moonstones are on account, would likely give an error message of some sorts. So there would be no accidentally draining parents banking, and plus what previous poster said would prompt a steam purchase authorization to card holder.
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3237259479
and has a pop up
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3237259586
having the collect reward button off to the right with moonstones above as well as tokens on the button makes it seem like that button is for purchasing 10 tokens using moonstones, I don't know what logic my brain used when scanning the buttons to think that was the buy tokens using moonstone button and then the button below was to spend moonstone. That could use a little adjusting in my opinion but yah I thought I was collecting moonstones that time as one of the rewards. I don't believe this design was to harm players intentionally, otherwise I would have been complaining like the original poster did. They give us so many moonstones perday and perweek, getting back 100 moonstones is hardly profitable for them because, I would get that 100 back picking 5 fruit and selling to earn the tokens via event duties, plus they appear to care for their players and usually take feedback seriously if there are specific issues brought to their attention vs general assumptions.
I guess I would change the wording to Claim Reward and put that button below and maybe above it put a Field named something like Event Balance it's general because the Event currency changes depending on event, last time was tickets this time tokens Or Token Balance Or Ticket Balance depending on event Currency. And I would put the wording Purchase More Event Currency/Tokens/Tickets Using Moonstones or something like that off to the right under the pile of moonstones. That's just the way I would do it. It's not my game, it's up to Gameloft to make those changes if they think it's necessary.
Just for the heck of it I clicked purchase 10 tokens for 100 Moonstones and there was no pop up, if a big scary popup stated Are you sure you would like to spend 100 Moonstones for 10 tokens I would have have been like No. That was my error for not paying attention to what I was clicking. I guess they must have taken advantage of a player who does not regularly wear his glasses. :D I didn't freak out over it. My freak out button was not pushed.
Good suggestion.
