Storage
I have so many boxes in my house filled and am so unorganized. Have no idea whats in what. Any ideas of where to place boxes so they are convenient for what I need them for? I guess what I'm asking is how do you all organize everything that you have?

As a general tip, I keep chests near specific locations -
outside my house
outside Remy's restaurant
next to Moana's boat
a couple in my house for unusual stuff.

Here is an example pic showing the chests outside my house. The ones I am facing are for various biome flowers-sorted by one or two biomes each. At the far end (out of sight in the photo)I keep my spices in the last chest.

Behind me are various colored chests with a lot of building materials. right to left-
1. stuff from the mine
2. various kinds of turf
3 sticks (green)
4 rocks (blue/silver)
5 Crafted items -like glass (blue/gold)

At an angle on far left
1.Iron
2. pebble sand and dug up stuff (Red chest)
3. can't remember
4. Gold

Anyway, you get the general idea.

Thank You, just what I was looking for! Made the mistake of doing all the same colored boxes which is something I am going to work on :) By the way I wish I had kept my house in the original location, so much better than what I dd

I have mine clustered in different parts of the entry room of my house. Three chests of food & fish (fish, veggies, fruit+spices) in one corner, by the stove. Four chests of minerals/gems/dirt/manufactured goods in another corner. Two chests of flowers & misc in the third corner. And three new chests for the DLC stuff (food, flowers, timebending) in the fourth corner.

Then I have one chest out in the fields, by the Raspberry/Blueberry/Gooseberry bushes, so I can store the ingredients for Berry Salad + cooked Berry Salads.

Oh, yeah - and I stuck the food ingredients that you purchase from Remy & the Meat shop, in a refrigerator in my Kitchen room. :D

(except for the most common things, that you need lots of for crafting recipes - like wood, coal, pebbles, clay, etc - I only keep one stack of most stuff.)

Thank you but had no idea we could have a refrigerator!

By crafting chests that match the color of the items stored inside.
For example, green chests contain green plants, red chests contain red fruits and so on.

This system has also been applied to gems.
Unfortunately, there are are no black or purple chests at this time, so I had to use just plain chests for amythyst and onyx until more colors are implemented.

In one of the patches, they made it so many (but not all) furniture items that *should* hold things, can. They're only the size of small chests, though. But for my fridge full of butter, eggs, and meat, that's enough. :D

I started with mine in 3 different spots near the house, cooking/flowers/crafting. Crafting had the most because of the variety and then leftover components as well. Started to add colours when the big chests came out, reduced flowers to one and cooking to two.

You should think about what you want to do with the house linked storage, it is the most versatile since you can place the vintage chest anywhere to access it. If they are going to keep expanding different areas it might be good to have some common storage in the house too, since you can go inside even in the new area, but I don't like going through too many transitions to store/retrieve.

For now I think I will just store each regions items near the house.

Fridges come in different colors, I've got a few black ones and I've seen white ones too.
Would be nice if they had more storage capacity then a small chest.

Upgrade house to get new rooms.
Buy a few large tables of your color choice.

Colour code chests.
Ie: yellow = crops or flowers

You can drop an item on the ground, edit decor, and place the item on the table. This can be used as generic labelling system.
Ie: coal, wood, gem, carrot, ect

Only use the "auto sort" in each chest.
This lets you purposefully place and keep chests how you want.

Then, if you still have, for example, a ruby unsorted, place in chest.

I know people will say to keep chests where you farm, but this will get out of hand fast.
And once you're past 2-3 chests, re-sorting and moving will be a fricking hassle.

Plus, a trip to your house will refill your energy. So it ain't all bad for a few seconds here and there.

Wow, thanks! Never knew about the tables as I have one now with nothing on it, great idea! I have been upgrading house but it gets bigger and no new rooms.

Adding rooms is done from the "elevator" in your house entrance to the left once inside. You can rename rooms and add rooms
