This Bothers Me Slightly - Daily Conversations Collecting Personal Data

I'm noticing more and more with the character daily conversations they are using social engineering to gather personal player data. For example one character asked if I was an only child and if I specific types of siblings. Another asked me if my favorite color was red or blue. One asked my favorite sandwich type as if to discover my diet type. This is text book social engineering driven by AI to gather data. Some of the questions I could not refuse to answer and I had to kill the game to get away from it.

It was pretty bold to outright ask personal questions, I gather in the future they will use more deceptive tactics to gather players personal data.

what concerns me the most is what am I not seeing.

I can't stop thinking about this. Why children and then I started to think about to one of my art classes, the instructor told us with color she could control the world. She seemed nuts but explained colors and patterns are used everywhere we are. In the dentist office certain colors and patterns are often used to help us feel relaxed as an example. A few years ago I met a person who was developing a product to use colors to manipulate people in real time on demand.

If the goal is to label players and passively manipulate their perspectives to a 3rd parties than I guess myself alone can not do anything about it. If the company is paying for this they won't do anything about it. Most players here likely think i'm nuts, and in a few days I will forget.

I actually read through your entire thread and all I have to say is... bruh... lol its not like they are asking for your social security XD or whats your bank account number. it's all basic information that you can get through FB or any other social media site. As long as they are not asking for specific names, places and birth dates, I'm good. Having siblings or not is a relatively benign question and I don't care if people know my dietary persuasions. I wish more did. Food allergies are a bear.

Unless they're asking for DOB, SSI, or other personal information (or PHI) then it's nothing but making it a realistic experience. Quit trolling--the amount of information on you for just using Steam should have you alarmed. Who cares if Disney knows that you are an only child?? Who. Cares.

I never even pay attention to the questions. I just spam click to get to get through the conversation. I don't think they're collecting any data. The characters also ask the same questions again after a while and you can chose a different answer. It doesn't really seem to mean anything when you answer and it's probably just so younger players feel more immersed in the game.

This. If I run into a question I remember, I try different responses to see if they say anything different. It's just filler dialogue anyway. /meh
