Only 3000 to decorate my island still? :(
I was really hoping they would push the limit for how many items you could place on the island. Only two of my biomes are decorated and barely at all and I've been maxed out for a month. I literally have to go and pick up every single item every day to get it back under 3000 items just so I can lock my follower up to farm ><

All I wanted for this update was to be able to decorate more, anyone else disappointed that didn't happen? :(

EDIT: To everyone saying it's to stop the game from crashing from too many objects:

There are plenty of other games that are able to have higher limits without crashing, and things still spawn in areas I didn't think they could; ex. on paths, between plants that have no empty tiles, evening so close to buildings I have to move the building to get to it, etc. Maybe I'm specifically thinking of Sims for unlimited decorating (even the original had no limit on items), and I've never heard of Stardew or AC having item limit issues.

I know the game is still in beta so that's a consideration but yeah, it seems more likely it's due to the Switch being a cross platform for the game. Hopefully they will figure something out so other platforms can enjoy the decorating a bit more. :/

i´ll probably only decorate one biome because of it. The main one.

The limit is designed to protect the game from crashing, it makes no sense that the limit just would be higher with an update.

It's cross-platform/cloud-save on multiple platforms, right? (and with some form of multiplayer coming)
So whatever limits there are would have to be based on whatever the weakest of the platforms is.

(plus, yeah - the limits have to allow space for all the other incidental changes & things that can happen. Dug-up spots & their fading with time, crops & their growing/watering status, spawning of resources. . .)

I didn't think about the fact that they are probably having to limit because of Switch capabilities (I'm assuming that's the weakest system), so thank you for that clarification :) . I play on PC so I'm used to only being limited by my personal system, not other peoples. But I wish they could still give us a bit more, especially with more characters and item choices coming into the game.

Aye there, you might wanna have a look at NexusMods, the "No Village Object Limit"-Mod removes the limit once and for all, I am at more than double the usual max. of 3k and the game still runs smooth as butter :puncho:

The limit is there because consoles can only do so much.
If this was a PC only game, the limit would be much higher.

Hence why you should not use mods if you intend to share your save across platforms, will result in a corrupted file.

Ooooo!! I like the sounds of that. I am a PC exclusive player. You haven't come across any issues at all? Because I'd love to give that a try.

I'm the author of the mod and therefore using it literally since it exists (which is Oct'22), since then 2 major game-/content-updates were released and I'm still using the same savefile since I started playing the game without any issues :)) Knowing what exactly the mod does & that it only consists of literally 8 lines of code, I can guarantee you from a technical standpoint that there are actually no issues possible, ever. The worst that could happen would be, that an Update would result in the mod not working anymore, which would then let the game see how many objects you've ACTUALLY placed, (let's say that'd be 4500/3000) and then not let you place down any more objects until you've removed enough items to fall back under that 3k limit. However, for now I plan to contuinue updating the mod to new game versions, IF an update should break the mod in some way.

I've answered similar questions in the posts tab on the NexusMods-Mod page, you might wanna have a look at that in case of any further questions or concerns; also, feel free to contact me personaly anytime :))

those items count toward the item limit. go pick up a few sticks or dig up some bones and you can see for yourself. the only items that don't count are nightthorns, paths, fences, and uh i think there was 1 more. but every single thing you mentioned counts toward the 3000 item count limit.
