We need more characters and what is up with the ones we got?
They could have chosen better characters. The mother from Tangled? Tangled wasn't even that good of a movie. I'm surprised there isn't more classic characters like Pinnochio and the princesses. I could live without tangled, enchanto and muana characters.

The time has come for me to share Disney’s hidden policy when it comes to selecting characters for the games they commission.

All character submissions have to be approved by Disney, the Devs can not add whomever they want.

The second rule is that Disney only wants movie characters in the game, as a free promotional tool for the franchises that make them the most money.
From Disney’s perspective, tv shows don’t make money, so there’s no reason to promote them in a game.

Third rule, only recent movies matter, Disney has minimal interest in promoting the older movies, mainly because they don’t want us to remember they exist.
Example, Atlantis is the movie they keep as diminished as possible, because they just don’t like it.

Fourth rule, a percentage of the Disney fanbase are wierdly obsessed with villians, so Disney caters to them by making villians more prominent.

So keep these four rules in mind and the selection process makes a lot more sense.,

Rule #5 - Gameloft must have already modeled the character in their previous games that they can import into this one to cut down on production costs and maximize profits.

We all know how hard up they are for money, based on all the defenders of the prices in the premium shop.

Rule 6- you develop the characters you can get inexpensive and available voice actors for that will pass the Disney review. You also leave the audience wanting more. You don't lead with all your best stuff. They want to be able to keep hyping the game for years to come.

Some of the characters already introduced would be yawn inducing if they waited till year three to introduce them. Not going to get a lot of game uploaders with that model.

That's a load of bull. It that were true the classic movies wouldn't all be getting reboots. Also the main characters in the game are almost 100 years old.

the amount of Atlantis in this game so far is kinda against this. The diary is written in the language from the movie, the blue glowing symbols, the statues. Lets be honest here there is an Atlantis theme.

it is still early access, so this is far from the finished game

What the Devs incorporate into the game is not evidence of Disney's support for any particular franchise.
Gameloft’s other game has no Atlantis content at this time.
It took them YEARS to add Atlantis content into Disney Heroes Battle Mode.
Short history lesson, Disney created an Atlantis tv series, but had no intention of finishing it, a few episodes is all they made before cancelling the show.
Have you ever seen Kida acknowledged as an official Disney Princess?

I have seen no reboots of the classic animated movies, only live action adaptions.
Well, one of those adaptions is technically a reboot, because Disney wants to forget the animated version exists.
Only the mascot characters are 100 years old, the animated movie characters are from 1963 (60) and 1989 (34).
Forgot to add that rule, the main characters will ALWAYS be from the mascot crew.

I doubt creating a character for this game is as easy as copy-paste.
The model has to be designed for systems with greater graphical power, game specific animations have to be added, it's a complex process.

Ariel is from a pretty old franchise so I don't think you can claim they only do new movies. I think a lot of newer movies are represented just because they are more popular and trendy at the moment. It would be silly not to add more popular and fan favorite characters. It is why they got Micky and the crew, even though they are not really from any movie, because they are all iconic characters.

Ah yes because sword in the stone is the first movie people think of when thinking disney princess. Old movie characters in this game other than mickey and his crew so far include Ariel and Eric, Stitch, Scar, Merlin, and lets not forget Simba and Nala are slotted next. Merlin's movie was about as iconic as Atlantis.

The game as it is currently is meant to become free eventually. More recent stars will certainly be adde... uhm... offered for a gamelofty price after launch. Wouldn't be very clever to add all the cool characters now/for free...

Snow White was a movie as was Cinderella, Pinocchio, Dumbo, Bambi, Alice in Wonderland, Robin Hood, Peter Pan, Lady and the Tramp, Sleeping Beauty and many more. So don't use the "Disney only wants movie characters in the game". And there are plenty of villains in all of those.

Personally, I think they are catering to today's young people and ignoring the huge amount of older fans. Their loss and their stupidity as the game is starting to go downhill.

Scar was definitely a poor choice. I don't give murderers a second chance. I'd be happy if suddenly he wasn't in the game anymore. I agree with Mother Gothel, like whaaaaaaaaaaat? That's definitely a weird choice. But, I do love seeing the newer characters like Mirabel and Olaf. I looooooved Encanto. Once Belle is finally in the game, just know someone out there in the world is going to be super super super super happy (me).

I would love to see some Disney pets like Dug, Meeko, Poncho, Lady and the Tramp, and aristocrat kitties.

I'd also love some more....space. I feel like my valley is so cluttered. I know we can teleport around but I would love some roller skates or something to help me move faster through a biome, lol :p

For the record, I did not say they never incorporate older movies, i said the content based on their legacy movies is minimal by comparison.

Little Mermaid, Sword in the Stone, 2.
WALL-E, Moana, Ratatouille, Frozen, Tangled, Encanto, 6.
The disparity will only become greater as more franchises are added to the game and favor the newer movies.

In Magic Kingdoms, there are no tv show characters.
In Disney Heroes Battle Mode, there are only 18 tv show characters out of 200.
That’s why I believe movies are the focus.

Lion King is another example of Disney catering to favoritism, the franchise is popular/has many fans, so they throw it in wherever they can.
Me personally, I am not a fan of that movie, so find the constant pushing of that franchise irritating,
Also, Scar is one of those villians the obsessed fans favor, so he gets featured a lot.
Myth Alric Feb 27, 2023 @ 8:14pm
Except a lot of those movies are old too. Ratatouille is 16 year old, and Wall-e is 15 years old. That is why I am saying it has nothing to do with how old the movies are, it is based on popularity. If they were only promoting newer stuff to sell movies, then wouldn't there be characters from Turning Red, or Raya and the Last Dragon?

It is clearly a combination of popular characters, and ones they think will fit well with the story and theme of the game.
