Was this game rushed?
I like the game, but compared to previous two this one kinda felt short and lacked content.
Champion district and Kamurocho hills aren't in the game by the looks of things.
There are no any fight masters like Komaki anywhere.
No, side story like in Yakuza 5 and 4.
Lack of characters. Even Goro and Saejima are barely in this game.
Story kinda felt...well I won't say it was bad or horrible but it wasn't really that great either. Ending was still emotional and open ended.
This is a final game where we play as Kiryu and yet it just simply didn't feel like it was. i've finished the game in 2-3 days and honestly, there isn't much to do in the game. I took me a week to finish every other game in the series.

yes. this is the first game they ever made on a new engine, yet they wanted to stick to the usual release schedule

Fair enough, but they should've delayed it tbh.

I know they keep saying they're not going to do another game with Kiryu as the main protag but I don't believe their lies. He may not be the main character, but he'll be playable again imo. This game is in no way a send off or even a ending to his character arc. If anything he became even more notorious. I just don't buy it. Maybe they will but this is a weird game to go out on if that's the case. It's a good game but it's not complete at all.

Maybe we won't be playing him, but I doubt we won't see him around. What about that guy in yakuza 5 who he told to come fight him when he is stronger. what happened to that? We should just brush it off like it never happened?

Yakuza has a serious problem with not bringing back antagonists, at least they stopped killing off the interesting ones. Aizawa is most likely not going to come back unless they just start throwing characters at Ichiban in a Disney "remember this guy" move. It would be cool to see a lot of people come back. We already got a few in Yakuza 7 who were supposed to be dead

I think the RGG Studio was at the same time working on 2 or maybe even 3 games (Kiwami and Yakuza 6 for sure). Rushed? Absolutely, but I would say wrong too. This game is basically Yakuza 3: KK going to the seaside and teaming up with a local minor yakuza family.
I would have liked a lot more Kasuma AND his successor, both playable characters and a story about the ending of one and the origins of the other. Instead, you have a weak chapter 6 and Like A Dragon, where Kasuma and the others are just guests out of place.

Let's see what will be next: Judgement 2 or Ichiban new advertures?
lol gonna resurrect this thread a bit to say, i think this is what i'm leaning towards. It certainly felt like a very constrained game due to being on a new engine and fitting the usual schedule, something along those lines. The writing definitely just seemed too quickly paced to be a coincidence, it was rushed.
yeah.. you can see how much kiwami-2 improved overall based on their mistakes on 6

2028 yakuza kiwami-6 with rtx 8080 godlike graphic. im on waiting list baby

The game was indeed rushed but not incomplete. As it is with every game, there will always be cut content in any game. As rushed as it is, we still got a pretty complete and enjoyable experience.

Very small minority here but I liked Yakuza 6's combat compared to Kiwami 2. While Kiwami 2 has a lot more moves and heat actions, the difficulty is piss-poor even on legend due to having too many heat moves. Yakuza 6 on the other hand has much less moves which makes boss fights more challenging. I also like how in Yakuza 6, Kiryu goes full gorrilla mode, swinging his fists continuously while in Extreme Heat Mode compared to Kiwami 2's Extreme Heat Mode where Kiryu pretty much does the same combo that he does without the Extreme Heat active.

To play the opposite end of the stick, I feel like 5 dragged too much. Like, honestly, you could cut Shinada out entirely and the game wouldn't lose much. Maybe then Akiyama could have had a full four chapters to himself.

I actually was surprised my final time on it was about the same as my first play of 0, because 0 never had me feeling bored. I'm only on chapter 8 of 6 right now, but I'm liking it much more than 5 so far. Things are actually happening at a decent pace. I get the comparison to 3, but even as short as 3 was, it felt like it dragged too. Mainly because around a third of the total playtime was talking to and chasing around the kids instead of actually being related to the plot.

And honestly, I was initially against having a new protag, too, but as I've gone through more of the games, I'm coming around to it. No, I don't think he will be gone from the series, but I do think having him step into a less direct role, or even as a mentor, is a good idea. Problem I have with that is Ichi is 42 years old in his first game, only 8 years younger than Kiryu, so the whole "passing the torch to the new generation" doesn't really work like it should. Maybe if Ichi was in his late 20s or early 30s, it would be better. As it stands, they should have set the tone more like Ichi is an up and coming peer to Kiryu, rather than a rookie new kid on the block.
the problem with the Yakuza games is that it's a taboo to actually play as a Yakuza so if you haven't noticed, the only times you are actually a Yakuza member you are usually doing something mundane or helping people out. but when you get full control over a character you can't actually be apart of a family. It would be really hard to justify this if your character was 20 years old. The entire story in Y0 revolved around Kiryu being kicked out of the Dojima family. They've done it in small ways with Saejima but never as fully as with Ichiban and Kiryu. So I would not expect to ever get a younger protagonist.
