Thing just straight up installed itself on my computer, it's making the game take so freaking long to launch :l

Anti cheat. The game itself also takes long regardless of it so.

Not so much worried as suspicious. Reading online really isn't giving me a lot of faith in it being something I want on my computer......
Especially considering I can find no information on it, no site to look at, nothing whatsoever... Didn't even ask me if I agreed to install the damn thing it just did it.

Newer to online gaming, eh? It's a common anti-cheat that has been around for quite some time. Maybe not so much anymore with newer and better anti-cheats available, but yeah. Although if you don't play Asian games, I can see why you don't know of it.

Will fully admit to not being in the online multiplayer scene so much or at all anymore. Tend to stick to singleplayer and co-op games nowadays. Still though I have dealt with Battleye and EAC and at the very least they asked to confirm installation.

I'm sure it's all fine, just never heard of it up until now.

rather dodgy anti-cheat software. Watch out if you want to uninstall the game. The last time was with BDO and Xigncode needed to be deleted manually with regedit even after the game was uninstalled.

I mean it has unrestricted kernel level access to your system....
That's a lot of trust you are putting into a 3rd party program that I still can't figure out if I can trust or not.

Paranoia stopped being "cool" in 1999... get a grip, if You're THAT scared, it's a darn good thing You don't know what Windows, Microsoft, AT&T, Google, Chrome, Edge, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tindr, & especially Tiktok do to Your' P.C.s code, AND privacy... much less how vulnerable You are to hackers on ANY peer to peer game like Project torque, MANY MMOs, and GTA-5/Red dead redemption! Get over it, if You do "ANYTHING" online, You are either being spied upon, tracked, or COULD possibly be hacked if You run Your' trap to the wrong people too much on a game! :fh4dangersign:

You say this but ok with EAC? EAC does same thing and worse.

if it digs in this deep in to ur data its already spyware, while windows only collects necessary data for fixes this also collects data about ur online activity, so ppl who compare this to widows and defend it are shills or naïve

OP Post:
Black Desert Online uses Xigncode anti-cheat software. This is a bit of an issue for me due to their data collections and wellbia stating they're non-liable for damages caused by this poor anti-cheat. Wellbia is run by China which by itself isn't an issue until you notice it's had multiple leaks and security problems. If you remove the software you can't play Black Desert anymore but you also can't fully remove it without going into safemode. There is no uninstall option for the software even if you wipe black desert online off of your drive. It doesn't seem to send data packets out but it does log all information from hardware to software that's on your C:// drive. It has kernel level permissions which alone is a huge risk and is entirely unnecessary for an anti-cheat system for a $10 game on steam. If anyone has any more information to add please contribute. I'd like to keep playing the game but this is a huge red flag.

oh boy, they should switch to Valve on steam, not installing BDO as long as they use xigncode

You think Xingcode is bad, then avoid anything Riot games related then, Vanguard is so much worse, try disabling it, you won't be able to load their games, try to close it mid-game, and it'll blue screen you automatically.
I love how everyone complained about XINCODE and got nProtect instead which even worse. And ye, i still dunno why almost fully server-side client needs stuf like this,

Necropost btw

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
