bloodrayne is from the same lore, they also did an amazing Blair witch project game series with the same engine.
I miss em so much!
Many strings in Blood Rayne exe gives idea that initially game was a Nocturne 2, than transformed from sequel into spinn-off and later into stand alone game, that still preserved some connections, such as tips in very beggining that Rayne has a simlar sister... which is as you can guess - Svetlana from Nocturne.
Blair witch game (1st one only) could be considered a Nocturne 2 or Nocturne addon with hot movie name atached to it as marketing trick. This game has almost nothing to do with Blair Witch, and is a direct sequel to Nocturne. Probably initially it really was sequel but then they decided to get license and change name and few things in game to sell more copies, Which is why nest game, which turned into Blood Rayne was supposed to be a Nocturne 2... while techically it was probably a Nocturne 3, since BLair WItch is really a Nocturne 2, but not officially.
Somewhere in 2001 there was news that Terminal Reality started development of Nocturne 2 with new 3D engine, there was even few shots of Svetlana as main character of sequel.
Later Take 2 bought GoD (Gathering of Developers, which owned rights to Nocturne i think, and TR left Take 2 without license to Nocturne IP.
Year later, somewhere in 2002 BloodRayne (or was it yet BloodLust?) was announced.
So it definetely was initially a Nocturne 2 with Svetlana, and change of publisher and loss of Nocturne rights caused change of name and concept.
As for Blair Witch, i was a little wrong, it was more like spin-off and addon to Nocturne, rather than a sequel.
And there was news afer BR1 and BR2 that new Nocturne 2 sequel was in production, and not just game, there was also pre-production of movie adaptation of Nocturne:

But as far as i remember this development somehow shifted into development of Ghostbusters, using same engine tech that was made for 2nd comming of Nocturne 2... so its kinda like a curse of Nocturne - everytime a Nocturne sequel being made, it turns into another game.
I wish to see someday (hopefull made by original game designers and writers of Nocturne and Blood Rayne) a crossover of Nocturne and BloodRayne (under title Nocturn of BloodRayne or BloodRayne's Nocturne or BloodRayne: Nocturne or Nocturnal Rayne), a game where Rayne, Svetlana and Stranger and even Doc from Blair Witch are all playable characters in different levels where their stories cross. And hopefully this will happen somewhere in 1940-1950th era, so we can return to-WW2 and post WW2 themes and this magic feel of first half of 21 century.
I think such game could be a direct sequel to both Nocturne and BloodRayne 1 showing up what happened afer Nocturne 1 and BloodRayne 1, and such game could be mechanically a mix of Nocturne, BloodRayne 1 and 2.
