Euh, what the hell is wrong with the save data of this game?
I wanted to make sure that this was the proper save data folder C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\352829230\1353230\remote
So I renamed it remote.old to see if the game start without any save data. It did, but when I delete the new remote folder and removed the .old from the original one, my data no longer loaded. What's up with that? Should I just refund this game now?

EDIT: Cloud save is turned off.

Yeah, saving is completely borked for a large number of people, even a few patches in.

Makes you wonder what the code is actually like... shame.

Yeah, been reading this in multiple topics. As much as I like this game, messing with save data is one of unforgivable sins in PC gaming that cannot be overlooked. I requested a refund even if it's been 18 days, let's see what happens.

I believe just renaming/messing with the remote folder without also editing the remotecache.vdf will mess up any game using steam saving (what was the point of that? you could just check file modification dates as the game is running) - regardless of cloud saves being on or not.

Either way looks like that refund went through.

The reason I tried this was because copying those files myself on my Steam Deck (using a program called FreeFileSync) did not work and I wanted to see if these were the correct files. It may be possible that backing-up the remotecach.vdf as well should have part of the procedure, I'm not sure. If you or someone else can prove to me that it does work, I'll rebuy it again during the next Steam sales. I really did love this game, it really reminded me of JSRF with a sprinkle of JSR.

Manually plonking in save files only works if the game has already created one for that slot. So if you wanted to transfer a save from one system/installation to another, the target game first needs to create a save file for that slot, which you can then overwrite (and you can only overwrite a matching save slot - no moving slot 1 to 3 like this for example). I assume you didn't happen to follow those steps.

I've done this a lot for testing and I'm sure the speedrunners have experience with that for practice saves as well, if you need someone else to tell you about it.

Yup, this seems to work (I re-purchased it yesterday). Just a quick question however, why are there 2 save locations on the Steam Deck?

/home/deck/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/1353230/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/LocalLow/Team Reptile/Bomb Rush Cyberfunk/

/home/deck/.steam/steam/userdata/352829230/1353230/

I found out that I had to start a game first on the first slot, then replace the files in the 2nd folder In listed.

The first folder is only for the local system game settings.

The second one is for the actual save slots shared to the cloud.

The same is true on windows.

I was in a secret area where you need to platform to get in and wanted to do it later but when I opened my file I was in a completely different area.

This is pretty upsetting, I just lost A TON OF PROGRESS. I haven't messed with the save files at all, I just left the game running for a while, came back and the sound wasn't working, so I quit and restarted it and the sound worked but I lost probably three hours of progress. :(

edit: I don't even have the boost yet. This is so insanely far back, what the heck happened. 😭 This is really demoralising. I like the game a lot, but it must've just totally stopped auto saving.
