Otherwise, my guess would be hitting walls or obstacles without realizing it. The game doesn't always telegraph when you've hit something as well as it could. I know in Versum Hill especially, I'm always running into scenery or weird grind spots that just kill a combo out of nowhere when it looks like it should've been fine, and I only realize half a minute later when my x40 multiplier suddenly became a x5 again.
My advice is to keep the slide button held whenever you're not trying to make a normal jump, even when you're on a rail or freefalling. If you do run into something or get hit with a point of bad collision, as long as you have the slide button held, the combo should keep going until you get back to a safe point. If you're holding it when you're actively jumping off a rail or a wallride, you'll get less air, but sometimes thats even better for combos, so yknow. Just a matter of knowing when to hold and release.
If you want to do longer manuals, you have to "boost trick," where you do a trick and boost at the same time. It'll take up boost, but it'll refill the bar after every trick. This alone is gonna be pretty essential in the post-game challenges where you have to rack up literal millions of points.
Few things to note...
- Don't do tricks on corners, otherwise you won't gain an extra digit on your multiplier.
- Each corner and wallride will only count once when it comes to the multiplier, so you have to keep exploring around the map to continue increasing it.
- Avoid stairs. Stairs will kill your combos. Stairs suck and I hate them.
- BMXs seem to have slightly longer manual times than skateboards or rollerblades.
