Autosave failure?

I'm not sure how it happened, but I just played through all of the pyramid shipyard place, closed and reopened and suddenly all my progress was wiped. Luckily it was only 'bout an hour and a half of playtime but it still sucks. Did anyone else encounter a problem like this?

UPDATE: It appears this can happen regardless of cloud save settings.
If you are running into this a lot, please hold on tight for a patch resolving it.

Some bonus info on how the game saves and recovers progress:
Every time you make a change to the world state (collectable/graffiti/progress/position/taking a photo) the game auto saves.
And every time you load a new area the game also saves a backup.

If a save cannot be loaded, the backup is loaded instead.

From the reports it seems that for some people the game can start to fail writing any save files altogether.

A good in game indicator of when this starts to happen is when you are no longer able to take photos.

At the moment I am guessing there is an issue with steam cloud saves and something can go awry there.

If you are only playing on one device I recommend you turn off steam cloud in the general properties of the game for now. This has helped other players in this thread:

And in case anyone else runs into syncing corrupted save files to the cloud:
Disabling cloud saves, creating brand new save files and then reenabling cloud save will force steam into a dialogue that allows you to resolve the conflict and upload your new working files to the cloud.

I ran into a different issue with the autosave. I just played for a few hours, tabbed out of the game to check some stuff, and tabbed back in. When I tabbed in the game crashed on me, and reverted to where I was when I had started the session. I lost story progress, 2 character unlocks, maxed out the graffiti in two areas, and set high scores in two areas (for the achievements). Kinda bummed but it is what it is I guess.

Happened to me too. I finished Versum Hill, beat the Eclipse, quit while in the dream sequence immediately afterward, and upon starting the game later my progress was reset to midway through Versum Hill.

Could you please implement a manual save system? I get that it's nice to have autosave, but if it corrupts because the game crashes or similar issue I would like to know that at least my manual save should be safe.

same issue with me, just unlocked solace and exited through menus as normal now ive opened my game and im in the dot exe crew fight lost like 4-5 hours of gameplay] :(

Seems like if the game crashes it ignores last save and goes to a previous one. Crashed when closing the game and I lost a ton of progress so does that mean it saves on closing and not when you return to main menu? I waited a couple minutes after returning to menu before closing cuz I was scared of losing 4 characters and %100 in 3 areas. Guess I was right to be scared.
