It's got a bad rap because it's easy enough to use that people have made a lot of asset-flip garbage in it, and flooded Steam with them. :(
Like...You know how RPGmaker has the "Baby's first unfinished/unbalanced Final Fantasy fangame" reputation despite being capable of making some really fun games? Unity's got a similar issue.
Honestly, it's silly. There's some seriously good stuff made in Unity, and the fact it's got a low barrier to entry means that smaller, more visionary studios can make some really good stuff in it without needing like a dozen C++ programmers like Unreal tends to.
And on the other there is a stigma from the free version forcing the Unity splash screen onto a lot of small, experimental and rough games.
If the Unity splash gives you nightmares, don't worry! Our games don't feature that.
edit: and keep your comments civil
Nice looking game, the most beautiful game I know that was made in unity was Hollow Knight
Ikr, every person who I know that plays indie games have a low end PC majority of the time and only resort to those genres
The list of popular games that use it is actually longer than I expected.
