Do not mess this up, NISA.
Please. Don't be a repeat of Lacrimosa's launch.

While I'm happy this is happening... I really wish NISA would've prioritized catching up with the TLoH series by finally localizing and porting Trails from Zero Kai and Trails to Azure Kai first. I understand from a business prospective why they'd want to do Ys 9 first however. I just hope they do make time to get Zero & Azure Kai done before moving on to the next TLoH game after Cold Steel 4.
There were enough Trails game made and ported recently, can Ys fan get some games too for once?

But I wouldn't be against seeing Nayuta coming to PC
"Enough" made recently?

Only a single Trails game has been released since 2018 (not counting console re-releases). We got Cold Steel 3 this year on PC... which was released in 2017 in Japan.

Ys has every game up-to-date.

Meanwhile Trails is still lacking Zero (2010) and Azure (2011), which came out a decade ago (both just got a "remaster" with some retcons this year in Japan for PS4) and are the middle half of an on-going story that requires fans to utilize fan-translations.

Hence my comment.

These two are required for the Trails game announced and being developed in Japan right now, as that game is said to load saves from these games.

The Trails game we're getting on PC next year: Cold Steel 4, came out in Japan in 2018. So again, a 3 year delay.

Aren't we still missing Ys V though?
maybe if the Legend of Heroes licenses were given to XSEED rather than NISA getting ALL the Falcom licenses, we'd get them faster because there would be two studios translating and porting them.

XSEED had it and couldn't deliver and thus we ended up in the dilemma we're in. That's why NISA took over and hired some of the ex-XSEED staff in order to ensure terminology and translation consistency to previous Trails titles. From my understanding at this point XSEED is pretty much dead. They nearly went bankrupt and got bought out but haven't done much since. XSEED didn't have the manpower to handle Trails. NISA took over and we got CS3 in less than a year and exactly a year after that is when CS4 is planned to release. So yeah, release speed has drastically increased under the NISA banner... but they're still just playing catch up at this point.

Why not both? Im personally looking forward to both Ys IX and Cold Steel 4.

I do agree with that. I dunno why Falcom didnt go with that option.

XSEED was far ahead in terms of porting ability (thanks to them hiring Durande), so we also wouldnt have had the Ys VIII 2-3 release issues if they had done the localisation for that game.

Since for the Ys games translation time wouldnt be an issue (they have far less dialogue), it would have made sense if XSEED did the Ys games at minimal.
Remember that at the time NISA took over, the first thing they did was the disaster called Ys VIII's Steam release(s)

Now with Cold Steel 3 being a very good port they gained back some good will, but that doesnt mean all is forgiven yet. We still have to see if they can keep it up after all.

Yes but it's a pre-Napishtim game that needs a remake really soon.

they did deliver though, they delivered CSI and CSII. Also, I know about ex-XSEED staff being hired at NISA. Fine, don't give it to XSEED. Give the license to Koei Tecmo, Capcom, Idea Factory, SOME studio OTHER than NISA PLEASE. NISA is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ garbage and should not be trusted. They have admitted that they will alter jokes because they consider them "sexist", and thats not something I want them to do and will be why I won't buy any NISA games until they shape up.

Ys IX has about as much text as Trails in the Sky, actually. The last few Ys games have been getting progressively larger scripts, and this one continues that trend.

There are multiple reasons why Falcom decided to start licensing their games to NISA, and many of the people at XSEED who were Falcom fans have left since then. If anybody other than NISA gets a Falcom game in the foreseeable future, it won't be XSEED, and they'll have to both outbid NISA and convince Falcom to take a risk on an unknown partnership, so it's not likely.
Tiasmoon 25 iun. 2020 la 19:03
Progressively larger, sure. But I highly doubt Ys IX has anywhere near the amount of dialogue that trails games do, and Ys VIII certainly didnt.
Minneyar 25 iun. 2020 la 19:25
I don't know what to tell you here other than I've played through the Japanese game and can personally attest that there's about as much reading in Ys IX as Trails FC. It's a text-heavy game.

Hmm, how much of the dialogue was voiced?

Nothing indicates that they will "mess this up". They've handled Falcom very well since the release of CS3 and they clearly care about Falcom and their fans. They weren't obligated to hire Durante and his team to redo the (second, functional) port of Ys VIII from scratch. To this day, the majority of Ys VIII's Steam reviews are from the botched launch and Chinese users crying about the lack of a Chinese localization, and despite that, it's achieved a very positive rating.

There isn't that much to read in Trails FC if you just do the main story. It's all the optional dialogue and events that make the bulk of the text. Not to mention you can speak to each NPC 2 or 3 different times before they just repeat what they're saying, every time they have new dialogue. Add to that the many books, items and whatnot.

I somehow doubt that Ys IX is as text heavy. There's a fair amount of text in Ys games these days but there's still a very large difference between Ys VIII and Trails games, so I do not see Ys IX bridging that gap just yet.

No, the majority of reviews are from the botched launches. IE: multiple. Yes Ys VIII was fixed, but by the time it was it is not like it impacted sales anymore. They cant undo that damage done.

If Ys VIII has a positive rating at all, its to the credit of the game itself despite NISA screwing it over several ways sideways.
